Rheinmetall supplying European customer with further Skynex air defence systems Rheinmetall has been awarded a further contract to supply Skynex air defence systems to a European customer. The systems will enhance the customer’s ability to defend itself against aerial threats. The order has a value in the lower three-digit million euro range. The deliveries will take place over the course of 2025 and, as with the initial contract, will also include the associated Rheinmetall made HX trucks. Relying on automatic cannon-based air defence, Skynex lends itself especially well to very short-range contexts where guided missiles are ineffective. Moreover, the use of programmable 35mm Ahead ammunition, as developed by Rheinmetall for this purpose, is significantly less expensive than comparable guided missile-based systems. Equally important: 35mm ammunition cannot be influenced much less jammed by electronic countermeasures when fired.  The success of the self-propelled “Flakpanzer” Gepard antiaircraft system in Ukraine underscores the effectiveness of 35mm gun-based air defence against aerial targets, especially cruise missiles and drones. #Military #Defence #Europe #AirDefence #Missile #Drone https://lnkd.in/eiVca4pF

The US and EU are strengthening their military support for Ukraine, providing various air defense systems. US President Joe Biden decided to transfer another Patriot missile complex to Ukraine, the second system Washington has transferred. The system will be deployed on the front line in just a few days. Meanwhile, Estonia announced a new military aid package for Ukraine, which includes Mistral short-range anti-aircraft missile systems and ammunition for them. The Netherlands will allocate €60M to purchase and produce drones for Ukraine. In particular, €20M will be allocated to purchasing FPV UAVs through the international drone coalition and €17.5M to purchasing marine drones, including drones made in Ukraine. In addition, the Netherlands is transferring a radar and three launchers for the Patriot system. Also, Norway has provided €240M to purchase air defense equipment and will contribute €125M to the initiative to supply Patriot missiles. Germany Reinforces Air Defense with Rheinmetall's Skyranger Germany has finalized a deal with Rheinmetall, purchasing up to 49 Skyranger 30 air defense systems for nearly €600 billion. The systems will be mounted on the Bundeswehr's Boxer armored vehicles and equipped with a sensor suite, a 30-millimeter cannon, and Stinger surface-to-air missiles, enhancing the country's capability to engage various aerial threats including aircraft, drones, and cruise missiles. This acquisition is part of Germany's initiative to establish an integrated air defense system for close- and short-range protection, aligning with Chancellor Olaf Scholz's European Sky Shield Initiative aimed at addressing European vulnerabilities exposed by recent conflicts. Ukraine receives more defense support, including a Mistral air defense system and a third Patriot air defense system. Ukraine received short-range Mistral anti-aircraft missile systems and missiles for them from Estonia. The Mistral is a modern anti-aircraft missile defense system designed in France to defend against helicopters and aircraft. At the same time, Germany confirmed the arrival of the third Patriot air defense system in Ukraine. Meanwhile, Latvia has prepared its next batch of aid for Ukraine with 2,500 drones worth €4M, which will be provided gradually during July as part of the drone coalition led by Latvia. The first shipment of 300 drones will arrive in the next few days, it was confirmed in Vilnius on July 5. For this year, Latvia has allocated €20M to the drone coalition, of which more than €10M is allocated for purchasing drones from the Latvian defense industry. In April and May, 135 combat drones and EW equipment worth €1M were handed over. Since mid-November, the #Houthis have been launching attacks against #shipping in the #RedSea. The US sent a number of #AEGIS destroyers to help protect international shipping, performing the dual role of intercepting Houthi drones and missiles and coming to the aid of distressed commercial ships. The British also sent one of its best ships, the HMS Diamond. However, something changed to cause the US and the UK to actually strike Houthi military sites in retaliation. Serious doubts arose on both the British and US sides that they were not equipped to deal with swarms of Houthi UAVs and missiles. On January 10, US and British forces shot down 21 drones and missiles. British Defense Secretary Grant Shapps said that doing this was unsustainable. What did he mean? 1) The limitations of a missile defense running out of VLS interceptors, and attacks directly on navy ships 2) The switch from relatively slow UAV to anti-ship ballistic missiles, which are much harder to react to in constricted waters.

The Republic of Singapore AirForce's Island Air Defence (IAD) system provides a multi-layered, networked & intelligent air defence round the clock islandwide. The IAD system integrates advanced sensors, weapon systems, command & control elements, & decision-making tools to protect Singapore against a wide spectrum of air threats. It includes ground-based air defence systems such as the ASTER-30 Missile System & SPYDER & sensors such as the Multi-Mission Radar, all of which work together as a system-of-systems. Singapore obviously isn't gonna get surprised. Terrorists are learning all the time & drones are easily available. There are enough examples of countries being successfully attacked by drones. The effective range of a RPG warhead used to be about 300 metres but thanks to the innovative Ukranian warfighters using unconventional warfare & improvisation, the range has increased to over 10km.

Short analysis of recent events on the Iranian-Israeli "crossfire": Iran shot at Israel more than 300 projectiles (SSM/cruise missiles and drones). Result: 99% were destroyed in air, 0 damage to Israel. Israel, allegedly, launched 3 drones (quadcopters) towards S300 SAM system protecting sensitive Iranian military site. Result: system destroyed. Conclusion: It's not only the amount of weapons your army has, its the quality of the intelligence (to raise the alert) and the quality of the air defence systems (to eliminate the threat). It's not surprising that when RUS-UKR war started, UKR president asked from Israel "two things only": Iron Dome and Pegasus (link in first comment)
