After the Civil War ended, the enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, received word they were liberated by Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. This day was June 19th, 1865. Every year since 1866, Juneteenth has been celebrated as a commemoration of the end of slavery in the US. In observance of this significant holiday, our Kids In Distress (KID) and Family Central, Inc. offices will be closed. Let us honor this significant day by reflecting on our shared history and our commitment to continued growth and equality for all. 🔄 Feel free to share this post to help spread awareness. #Juneteenth #FreedomDay #HistoryMatters #EqualityForAll #CelebrateJuneteenth

I should have edited this video. It's long. There is an awkward pause. And another one. I'm not as good with my words here. That's okay. I'm talking about race. And that's uncomfortable. I grew up in Idaho. Everyone looked like me. I looked like everybody. We didn't talk about diversity or race. Because why would we? If we did, I don't recall any champions for justice. I had a LOT to learn. Like this: while we celebrate Juneteenth, the 13th amendment abolished slavery in 1862. By design, it took 2 ½ years for news to reach the last slaves in Galveston, Texas. On June 19th, 1865. Not even justice was justly delivered. The sacrifice and suffering originating from American slavery is a stain on our history. It has been replaced with systemic, structural racism that persists. Especially in real estate. We can make a difference here. The future is ours to advance a more just and equitable future. It’s one thing to reflect and learn. It’s another to act. It's the work of individuals and business leaders to insist on change, then make it. It's my work. Today, we observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. It’s a time to honor the survivors of residential schools and remember the children who never returned home. We acknowledge the painful histories that Indigenous Peoples have faced and commit ourselves to learning and understanding these truths. This day is not just a moment of reflection; it’s a call to action. Let’s educate ourselves about the legacy of colonization, support Indigenous communities, and amplify Indigenous voices. Our connections with First Nations are vital to this journey. By collaborating with Indigenous leaders and communities, we can ensure that their perspectives and traditions are woven into the fabric of our collective future. As we wear our orange shirts, let’s carry the message of healing and hope forward. Together, we can foster understanding and work towards a future built on respect, reconciliation, and justice for all. Let’s stand in solidarity with First Nations, advocating for their rights and recognizing their invaluable contributions to our society. 💛🧡 #nationaldayfortruthandreconciliation #NDTR #truthandreconciliation #everychildmatters #indigenousvoices #listenlearnact #orangeshirtday #norpro #security #healthandsafety #norprosecurity #norprohealthandsafety #yoursafetyourpriority #northernontario

THIS is #ReturnToRural Awesome story about Jordan's return to the area and the great things he is doing. With multiple groups taking different approaches to this same idea, the overarching theme is that there is vast opportunity in rural areas. Go take a look and you just might be surprised. Consider making the move and filling that critical job role, moving a business operation that can bring value and job opportunities to the area, or launch that startup you have always dreamed about. Rural is rich in support, community, and resources! JOIN US and truly make positive impact! #returntorural #RuralIsRad #ReimagineRural ***************** Sterling native Jordan Suter believes being involved in the community is the way to bring about change. Suter left Sterling after high school, playing baseball in college while pursuing his degree in biology, and then spent five and a half years as a forensic scientist. It was family ties that inspired his desire to return to his hometown – Suter is the fourth generation on his mom’s side to live here, and the third on his dad’s side – but he didn’t know what he’d be able to do for a career, given his background in biology. Then he got an job offer from Thrivent, which he was familiar with because his family had worked with the financial planning firm. “I was really thankful to be able to do that, because I had always wanted to be around my family and serve this community, but had never really had the opportunity,” he said. Suter moved back about two and a half years ago and jumped right into getting as involved within the community as possible. His own passion for the community shines through when he talks about how he would encourage others to consider living and working in Sterling. He said he’d encourage those from the Front Range and other urban areas to come visit the community and see what it’s about, because he feels that they might have misconceptions about rural Colorado based on clichés that don’t capture the generous spirit of the people here. And for those who moved away but might be open to returning, like him, his plea is more direct: “We need you out here. This community needs more young people… that care and want to make a difference, and you can only make a difference if you get involved.” He is thankful for the opportunities to have an impact on future generations through coaching as well, saying, “Being able to coach high school kids and show them that it is cool to leave, do your thing and go learn about the world, go experience some stuff – there’s nothing wrong with that. But coming home, there’s nothing wrong with that. You can be a good person and care about your community and just serve; that’s the whole point.” “I just want to leave a mark, and hopefully it’s a positive one,” he said.
Honored to be nominated as a “Rising Star in the Northeast Colorado Community”! Better to be rising than falling, as they say. #Recognition #Community #NortheastColorado

Did you know that children who have spent time in foster care are 3.5x more likely to experience PTSD like that of a war veteran? Placement stability is an integeral part of helping mitigate the affects of trauma children in the foster care system experience. Once healthy stability is achieved, children can begin the process of learning how to form healthy trust-based attachements. This is vital to their healing journey. Keeping sibling groups together, whenever possible, is a monumental part of lessening the overal impact that the trauma of removal can cause for a child. Think about it, even if a child is in a desperate situation and removal is a necessary, they are still being ripped away from all that is familiar to them. For children, routine and control are two extremely important components for healthy development. When children are able to enter into the unknown space of the Child Welfare System and navigate it with their sibling, the trauma that comes with removal can have less severe lasting affects. They have eachother and intimate connection and that gives them a sense of control and safety. I am so excited to see that Christian Bale has discovered this reality and has a passion to help make it possible for siblings to remain together during foster care placement.
Shoutout to Christian Bale! After 16 years, he finally broke ground on a project close to his heart: building homes and a community center for foster siblings to stay together. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to creating a brighter future for these children! 📹: The Associated Press
