What an exciting week, with the release of phase 1 of the Enhancing career education in Queensland state schools initiative. All state school students now have access to the Career Education: Pathways Program - supporting students in years 7 to 10 to make informed decisions about their study options and transition successfully into meaningful pathways. State school staff have access to the Career Education: Pathways Program for Educators, supporting educators deliver high-quality, evidence-informed career education. These optional programs support the effective career-related learning schools already deliver. Here’s a preview of the program - What is career education in Year 7?

During the Preview Summer Sessions at ISU, I have the privilege of recommending courses for first-time college students. It's a transformative experience, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to serve each student and their families. I've learned a great deal, and I would like to share a brief account of my experiences. 1. Saying hello to people can truly make a significant difference. 2. As an Advisor, it's essential to embody patience. Although you may find yourself repeating information, it's important to remember that this journey may be entirely new for many students, especially those who are first-generation. 3. Specializing in retention and probation, I consistently reflect to enhance outcomes. I focus on fostering grit, zest, and optimism in individuals' daily routines. 4. Never judge where you see a person because you never know where they have to travel from. 5. Your process reflects who you are. Creating and following a structured to-do list can significantly enhance your advising process. Maintaining this level of organization daily, weekly, and monthly can make a profound difference in your work and student outcomes.

March 2023 Not all the students I serve pursue 4-year college education. Many of them are exploring alternative pathways to progressive and rewarding careers. It was a busy start to National Careers week yesterday. Wonderful to have the opportunity to catch up with our alumni over lunch before whisking them off to their various talks which were absolutely packed full of students. Listening to the types of questions our students asked reinforced how important it is to have younger alumni coming back to give these talks. The job market is changing rapidly impacted by factors such as AI to remote working. It is essential that our alumni are on the pulse of all these changes in order to best advise our students. #nationalcareersweek #alumniengagement #alumnitalk
