Colleagues, one more reminder to join PIOW in our efforts to inspire civic engagement!

The summer Olympics always seem to fall during major transitions in my life! This inspires me to persevere and also gives me an excuse to compare my development to the training of an Olympian! The 2016 Olympics marked the beginning of my PsyD in Organizational Leadership Psychology at William James College, and 2020 marked the start of my personal venture at my Organizational Development and DEI consultancy Primed OD. In this time I've also done lots of meaningful work with close partners like Ibis Consulting Group, Fletcher Consulting, and Comma Williams Enterprises, and they have been pivotal in my experience in improving workplaces and advancing equity. Last weekend was the end of the 2024 games and as I reflect on previous games, I recognize that all of these milestones continue to build upon the last. Here I am transitioning again, but this time adding more "sport categories" by joining Laurie Nicolas, M.S. in the Executive Office at Harvard University Health Services as Senior Project & Program Manager for Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging. Together we will use this "training season" to use data and authentic, human-centered response to advance health equity through the employee and patient experiences. While in this part-time role, I will continue to partner with my colleagues above, engage with old and new private clients, in addition to introducing some exciting new wellness and learning ventures for Primed OD! Politicians, like all leaders are fallible, yet they have the power to influence us to circumvent our values. This is a reminder to let who you are set the precedent for your actions and behaviors, and stop letting dominant voices: 1. Create the illusion of binaries 2. Reinforce inauthentic ways of communicating 3. Stall our advocacy with the belief that they are saviors 4. Tell us what we should care about and have them working to advance our goals We need them but we need you too. You are not voiceless! “In addition to requiring average compensation information by gender, race, and ethnicity, this bill also takes aim at requiring companies to tell applicants the salary range of the position they’re applying. This will level the playing field for women who are so often underrepresented at the top of the corporate ladder.” Nice to open the app to some good news! Black and Hispanic women, go get yours 👏🏾

Shout out to workshop participants who heed the grounding principle that goes something like, "Ask questions, even the one we might fear is a dumb one. This is the place to make mistakes. We'll work through it together. Better here than in front of your company or your team." Whenever you raise your hand, you elevate the dialogue because at least one other person had the same question, and another person is now more encouraged to ask an even more complex question. Don't worry we'll take it personally - a great facilitator has no problem affirming your good question or saying "I don't have an answer for that one".
