What’s the difference between a job and a career? Jobs are important: they help workers live comfortably, provide for their families, fill their time, and contribute to society. However, more than ever before, employees – including those entering the workforce for the first time and those considering career changes – are looking for more than “just a job.” They want a career – a long-term path filled with meaningful work, challenging tasks, and fulfilling professional experiences. They want employment that aligns with their values and keeps them motivated and engaged throughout all the inevitable challenges and achievements. For many in the construction industry, those desires for meaning, fulfillment, and engagement led them to a career in construction. What makes a career in construction more than just a job? Engineering and Technology Intern | Automotive Engineering Student at the University of Warwick | Enthusiastic about all things engineering and design!
Good morning all, welcome back to another W&W Monday! 💎 Just a reminder if this is the first post you’ve seen in this series, every Monday I’ll be detailing one thing that I learned from the last week (a what), and one person who inspired, pushed or impressed me in the last week (a who). WHAT: 📝 Last week on my industrial placement at Druck, a Baker Hughes business I was given the opportunity to start work on a new project. As it was the first time that I was the independent, working engineer on the project, it was certainly a challenge to learn how to solve the initial problem scope, and create a plan of action 🪓. WHO: 👤 Throughout my industrial placement I’ve had the opportunity of working with Imogen Boult, one of our project managers. Throughout the year, we’ve been part of a team working on a particular design project, in which her skills in project management, engineering and problem solving have been key to us achieving the success we have done to date. That’s all for this week, hope you have a productive day and week ahead! 🙏🏻 #engineering #design #learning #productivity

Through #jobrotation, our employees can find out exactly that. Not only does this broaden their horizons, but it also gives them insights into the processes of other departments, helping them to gain a deeper understanding of common workflows. Diana Lorena Pardo Espinosa, Asset Analyst, has been supporting the management of projects in the context of our Irsching location in the Asset Analysis area for years. Through job rotation, she switched to the power plant site itself for 3 months and was able to support the team there, gaining a closer insight into the processes on site and the people behind it. Have you ever tried a job rotation? Tell us about it in the comments! 💬 You can find more information about our flexible working models here ➡ https://lnkd.in/eHuSdUF7 #NewNormal #FlexWork #EnergyEvolutionStartsWithU

Specialist in the management and consenting of major infrastructure in England and Wales (onshore and offshore)
What do I want to achieve this year? How am I doing against my career aspirations and what do I need to do differently or improve to achieve them? I was thinking about these and other questions recently while settling into my new role at AtkinsRéalis. Indeed it's that objective setting time of year for many of us I suspect. It got me thinking about how my motivations for working in planning, energy and infrastructure have changed since starting my career 20 years ago (I still try to fool myself I haven't aged at all during that time!). I still have a passion for helping to deliver positive, meaningful and sustainable development and to ensure I challenge myself and others every day. I still want to be challenged by others, to work hard and celebrate team achievements. I still want to work with lots of amazing people who inspire me. What I realised is different (albeit has increased in prevalence each year I get older) is I now think more about what I can to nurture the next generation of people coming into this profession and to keep them here. There's so much talent, intellect and ambition out there. I've witnessed as much during graduate recruitment campaigns that I've helped to support previously. I'm also regularly impressed by colleagues far younger than me and what they are capable of achieving (and just how often they're smarter than me!). They are the future now. We're going to need all of their help (and a lot more of them) if we are to deliver what's needed and address the climate and nature emergencies.

Trusted partner, delivering executive search solutions within the Building Products and Construction industry.
🚀Exciting news 🚀🥂 Q1 was a record for KMN and honestly, I couldn’t be happier. With multiple key hires made into the Building Materials sector, there were two standouts for me – Ian Dean who took up the appointment of Managing Director at Aggregate Industries UK Stephen Lea who took up the appointment of Commercial Director at Blue Phoenix Group These significant hires are not only key for the individuals and clients involved, but also KMN Consult Ltd position in the Executive Search market, showcasing the ability to place only the best people in the sector. With new assignments already underway for Q2, I’m intrigued to see how the hiring and building materials market changes as we now enter the spring and summer months. Looking to make some key hires and need an expert? Drop me a message. Looking for a new opportunity and want to know what is happening in the market? Drop me a message. Exciting times ahead and here's to a productive Q2! #Businessinsights #Markettrends #Buildingproducts #Construction #KMN #Executivesearch

When Favoritism Hurts More Than Just Business Today, a friend of mine told me that a general contractor chose to go with a familiar face over giving them, a new electrical contractor, a shot at their first job together. it really bothered me because I can relate to it. It’s a stark reminder of how buddy relationships dominate this industry—and how they can make it feel like some GCs just don’t care about giving new talent a chance. Let’s be honest: this kind of favoritism doesn’t just close doors; it sends a message that innovation and fresh perspectives aren’t valued. It’s disappointing when your skills and dedication take a backseat to familiarity, especially when you're working hard to build new relationships and prove your worth. To those GCs who rely on the same old faces, I challenge you to consider the opportunities you're missing out on. New contractors bring energy, fresh ideas, and a hunger to prove themselves. We’re not here just to do the job—we’re here to excel at it. For my fellow new ECs who are grinding to land that first job, don’t let these setbacks diminish your drive. Keep pushing, keep knocking on doors, and remember that your time will come. #ConstructionIndustry #ElectricalContractor #BreakingIn #NewTalent #FairOpportunities
