Finding the RHYTHM of a House Residential Care is often seen as the bad cousin of Foster and Kinship Care, but it doesn't have to be this way, if we truly work therapeutically. Adults create the rhythm of a residential house, whilst we catch children's and young people's waves. Part of our Homes that Heal Program for Residential, Foster and Kinship Care is the RHYTHM Framework; Regulating Emotional States, Homely and Safe Environments, Yummy and Nutritious Food, Therapeutic Change Plans, Healthy Body MInd and Spirit and Maintaining the Rhythm. Getting the rhythm back when children are dysregulated in residential care can be challenging, here are some tips to help. Keep up the great work!

HR Service Center Manager @ AMD | HR Shared Services, Service Delivery, Project Management | DTM, LSSBB, NLP
It’s can somehow be therapeutic when we have someone to simply share in the weight of our challenges. It’s not always about fixing it; sometimes, it’s talking to someone, creating a space to unload, that makes us feel lighter. Then, we’re ready to move forward. Thanks for calling this out Ryan Leak #moveforward #therapeutic #mentalhealth
Part of adulting is reading the room and knowing what the people we care about need from us and knowing what they DON’T need from us.

Great to see this resource 'Child’s Voice' get a refresh during National Reconciliation Week. It encourages the voices of Indigenous children to be heard. The Child’s Voice tools are based on the Kids Central Toolkit, developed by the Institute of Child Protection Studies at Australian Catholic University with VACCA - Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency. The Kids Central toolkit aims to help services place children in the centre of their work. It is a strengths-based resource that talks about why working with kids is important, gives messages from kids about how they might best be supported and provides a series of activities, games and tools. VACCA redeveloped five tools from the Kids Central toolkit specially for Aboriginal children and provided talking tips and guidance for the tools specially for Aboriginal children. The tools include: - I’m deadly: To find out a bit about the child and how they see themselves - their strengths & dreams - All about me: To find out a bit more about the child - their feelings and wishes - People in my life: To help kids identify who is important to them - My journey: To help kids remember things in their life - Getting from here to there: To find out about some of the things the child wants #reconciliation #safeguarding #childsafety

Today we’ve launched 🚀a new project with Coram in partnership with Family Rights Group, Daybreak, and Data to Insight to better understand the data local authorities are collecting on #FamilyGroupConferences 👇 The findings from our randomised controlled trial showed that children whose families are referred for an FGC are less likely to go into care, and that children of families referred for an FGC are less likely to be subject to care proceedings. The project will identify methods to regularly collect data on which families are offered and participate in Family Group Conferencing at pre-proceedings stage, and their outcomes. This will help build a picture of FGC access across England, which does not currently exist. This project is part of our National #KinshipCare Strategy work. Foundations is working with @educationgovuk and the sector to encourage all local areas in England to use FGCs to keep children with their families when appropriate. Today’s therapy share is from Leslie Terrell, CSH assistant director of speech services. 🦈🪸🌊 One way to engage children in speech therapy activities is through sensory exercises. Children love hands-on activities, and this one also introduces several vocabulary words as well. Using a bin filled with water and ocean animals, our little ones can practice saying words like - Open/close - In/out - Stir/shake/swim/splash This activity also allows children to make autonomous choices when deciding which animal to put in the water and practice exclamatory words like ‘wow’ and ‘whoa’ or description words like wet, cold, colors and sizes. #ColumbusSpeechandHearing #CSH #SpeechTherapy
