Reform is going on the generator interconnection process to speed up the grid connection process in US. Currently the the total capacity of the projects waiting in the queue in US market is more than 20 times the size of the NEM. The reform in US will shift from "first come first serve" to "first ready first serve" model by putting higher requirement on the financial commitment including deposit from the applicants and hard date on TSO. The clustered study approach may bring more efficiency than individual application study and encourage collocation projects or projects hub, i.e. storage collocated with renewables. This is similar to the batched process in the NSW REZ model. The interconnection reform in US reminds me of the transmission access queue model proposed by CEIG in 2022 with an excellent report by Castalia, "Rethinking of Open Access Regime" , which analyses the different models of access right measured by firmness.
