Exciting news from LanzaTech highlights a groundbreaking leap in sustainable technology! By harnessing the power of the bacteria Clostridium autoethanogenum, originally found in rabbit droppings, LanzaTech is transforming carbon emissions into ethanol. This isn't just about reducing emissions; it's about creating valuable products, from sustainable aviation fuel to eco-friendly plastics used in apparel and detergents. Despite facing financial headwinds, with its stock price reflecting the inherent challenges and market scepticism towards new clean-tech ventures, the potential environmental impact of LanzaTech's technology cannot be underestimated. Their approach could decrease carbon emissions from steel plants by 30% and achieve up to an 85% reduction in greenhouse gases when the ethanol is used for aviation fuel. This technology demonstrates a crucial point: innovation in sustainability requires patience and long-term investment. As we continue to navigate the complexities of scaling clean technologies, it's essential to support and invest in solutions that offer a more sustainable future, even if the path isn't straightforward. For professionals and companies in the sustainable business and clean tech sectors, this is a reminder of the importance of resilience and innovation in the face of challenges. Let's continue the conversation on how we can support groundbreaking technologies that have the potential to revolutionize our industries and protect our planet. #Sustainability #Innovation #CleanTech #LanzaTech #EthanolRevolution The Wall Street Journal

🚀 Successful Pilot Project: A Breakthrough - Bioplastics Production from Waste Fabric 🌱 We are thrilled to announce a major milestone in our journey toward a sustainable economy! In collaboration with The Biomimicry Institute, Circle Economy, BioFashionTech, TNO, Erdotex Group, supported by the Laudes Foundation, EV Biotech has successfully completed a pilot project that demonstrates the potential of converting mixed textile waste into valuable bioplastics, proving the efficacy of cutting-edge biotechnology. At BioFashionTech, we have created an enzymatic hydrolysis process to break down cellulose from textile waste, transforming it into glucose—Glucose is a key feedstock for producing #PHA, a biodegradable polymer. EV Biotech has proven that this complex glucose waste stream can successfully be utilized by both natural and EV Biotech's engineered PHA-producing microbes to produce this Bioplastic. This innovation not only diverts waste from landfills or incineration which is environmentally harmful, so it's not only creating a new revenue stream but also reducing a 'pollution stream' for industries grappling with unsellable waste. Find the summary of the project here: https://lnkd.in/epypkmWk This pilot not only underscores our commitment to driving the bioeconomy forward but also provides a compelling proof point for the potential and viability of our technology. As we look ahead, we're excited to expand these efforts, partnering with innovators in biomaterials to further refine and deploy sustainable solutions. 🔬 Key Takeaways: Cost-Effective Recycling: Transforming waste from a cost center to a profit center. Biocompatible Outputs: PHA production from waste-derived glucose. Sustainability at Scale: Proven pathways for large-scale bioplastic production. This success is just the beginning. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to innovate and lead in the sustainable biotechnological revolution! 🌍 If you’re passionate about sustainability and interested in collaborating, let’s connect! Together, we can drive meaningful change and create a better future for fashion. Paques Biomaterials has raised €14 million to produce a biopolymer with the advantages of plastic but not the disadvantages. The investment round was led by Invest-NL and NVNOM. Over a decade ago, in collaboration with TU Delft the development of this biopolymer from wastewater started within the Paques company, the anaerobic water purification company in Balk founded by Jos Paques. Three years ago, the technology was transferred to Paques Biomaterials (founded by Joost Pâques and René Rozendal). The capital raised in this funding round will allow it to scale up by building a Caleyda Extraction Facility in Emmen, where raw PHA will be extracted into a high-quality biopolymer branded Caleyda®. Caleyda® can be used for a wide range of applications, mainly because the product is 100% biodegradable in any natural environment without leaving behind harmful microplastics. Over the past three years, the technology behind the product Caleyda®, in which bacteria in organic waste streams produce the biopolymer PHA, has been further developed. Emma den Held, investment manager at Invest-NL: “Our investment in this promising alternative to fossil plastics shows our confidence in the power of innovation. Paques Biomaterials’ solution is fully circular and prevents harmful microplastics. With a patented technology, a large potential market scope and a strong management team, we are convinced that we are making an important contribution towards a circular economy with our investment.” INGEN HOUSZ (Matthijs Ingen-Housz, Berend Veenstra) advised Invest-NL (Emma den Held, Lars Groenveld, Willemijn van der Elst, Quirine Kloosterman)
