After lunch, Sean Rooney, Head of Service, Highway Maintenance, Environment & Place at Oxfordshire County Council, and Karla Shorrock from LCRIG’s Sector Insights Team, led a session on AI and the Insights from the Innovation Think Pavilion at the LCRIG Innovation & Learning Festival. Karla began by continuing the session on 'Getting the Best out of AI' from the Think Pavilion, where the key recurring themes centred around collaboration, conversation, and defining AI. She offered a clear definition of AI, explaining that it refers to the capacity of machines and computers to perform cognitive, human-like functions. AI is often divided into two categories: - Generative AI: Creates new content. - Predictive AI: Uses data patterns to forecast outcomes. Karla noted that LCRIG is undertaking an annual innovation report to track trends in the sector, including AI. To gather insights, LCRIG has created an innovation survey, which remains open for input. Early results show that AI is a top emerging trend, with 81% of local authorities and 83% of suppliers ranking AI among the top three trends. Despite the enthusiasm, local authorities expressed concerns about innovation adoption, particularly around risk aversion, with over 60% stating that risk aversion significantly or moderately affects their ability to innovate. Through developing conversations around AI, LCRIG aims to help reduce these perceived risks. On the supplier side, many survey respondents emphasised the need for local councils to trial innovations and evaluate the results, which would help further develop solutions and mitigate risk. Top three barriers for local authorities when implementing innovations were identified as: - Procurement (24.2%) - Lack of technical skills (16.1%) - Risk appetite (16.1%) Sean highlighted that the sector is at the beginning of a journey when it comes to AI. While we don’t yet have all the answers, working collaboratively can help find them. He emphasised the importance of maintaining a "culture of curiosity" and noted that AI is already being used, sometimes without us even realising it. However, he stressed that AI will always need human interaction and collaboration to be truly effective. Sean concluded by encouraging continued innovation and collaboration to maximise the potential of AI in the sector. #StrictlyHighways

🌟 Introducing our latest expert feature for German AI Month #mAI2024: Eva Gengler! 🚀 Eva is a doctoral researcher at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg and was also one of the AICC's distinguished jury members for the 2023 AI Beyond Borders Awards! She is also co-founder of the organizational and IT consultancy enableYou, as well as feminist AI. 💭 Curious about Eva's perspective on integrating equity considerations into AI innovation? Take a look at her insights below! 1. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐈 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦? A lot of young, very passionate, and even quite diverse people drive Germany’s AI innovation ecosystem. Many of these do it because of a purpose they want to fulfill – a problem of inequity to be tackled. This is special and very much necessary to change our world to the better with AI. 2. 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐈 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭? 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐞𝐞 𝐟𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐈 𝐢𝐭𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐀𝐈 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐞? The purpose of why we develop and use AI systems is key. We need to ask ourselves whether an AI has the purpose to transform current power structures or to reinforce them. The purpose of feminist AI is to highlight and change inequitable power structures in our societies towards more equity. Again: the purpose is key. 💪 ✅ To hear more expert insights throughout the month of #mAI, as well to see innovative AI use cases from across Germany, be sure to follow the AI Competence Center! #GermanAIMonth #DeutscherKIMonat #mAI2024 #AIInnovation

AI: our employees new "best colleague". As World Creativity and Innovation Day approaches, we'd like to share how, at Anaïk, the establishment of an AI Steering Committee and the proactive integration of Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) has been driving us since 2022. We have : - been informed and trained with Bpifrance, Webikeo with method and commitment - surrounded by a referent for each business line, from operations to support - enlisted the support of an engineer specialized in AI. We firmly believe in the ability of AI to transform our practices, not only by automating repetitive tasks but also by enriching and energizing high value-added tasks. Setting up this committee is a pioneering initiative aimed at integrating AI at the heart of our processes. Our aim? To free up time for our employees, so that they can devote themselves fully to what really counts: innovation, creativity, and the development of ever more effective solutions for our customers. The AI Steering Committee plays a crucial role in identifying opportunities for the application of AI in our activities, ensuring a smooth and efficient transition to high-performance, supervised practices. This approach fits perfectly with our Open Innovation strategy, where collaboration, experimentation and knowledge sharing are the pillars that underpin our constant quest for excellence and innovation. We are convinced that adopting Gen IA will give our teams the opportunity to push back the limits of their creativity, paving the way for new ideas, products and services for our customers. Our strategy is far from using AI as a communication opportunity. At the contrary we are truly convinced that it is a driver of transformation and innovation. For Anaïk, the integration of AI is one of the levers for tangible improvement in the quality, personalization and performance of our products and services for those who put their trust in us: our customers. #IA #GenIA #OpenInnovation #WorldCreativityAndInnovationDay #Innovation Sarah Perrin-Mathieu Guillaume de La Débutrie
