Yesterday, I posted about my thoughts on op/ed which had me reflecting on my responsibility to students in higher ed in moments of crisis (especially involving social justice issues). So I was so happy today when I saw this new publication including the same author, which expands on some of the points in that article and provides practical advice for campus leaders on responding to racial crisis! And two incredible people I know (Jude Paul Dizon, Ph.D., and Marissiko Wheaton-Greer, Ph.D.) are also authors! It's not long. A must read.
🔊 PUB ALERT 🔊 Happy to share lessons learned on how campuses can move forward following a racial crisis! Fries-Britt, S., Kezar, A., McGuire, D., Dizon, J. P. M., Kurban, E. R. R., & Wheaton, M. Today I read an insightful piece by Kara Aurendel on the transformative use of ESSER funds across the nation. From bolstering math and literacy skills to enhancing school culture and providing crucial social-emotional support for students, these federal funds have been a lifeline during the pandemic’s toughest times. Aurendel discusses the critical next steps: ensuring these gains aren’t short-lived post-funding. With strategic leadership and data-driven decision-making, some districts are already charting paths to preserve and build on these advancements. I believe it is imperative that all educational leaders plan proactively for the future, keeping the needs of educators, parents, and students at the forefront. Wha’ts happening in your community? Are there plans in place to continue these beneficial programs and practices? LEt’s share and learn from each other’s strategies for sustained success. #ESSERFunds #Studentsupport #Sustainedimpact https://lnkd.in/gGPhkjsY

📢 Important Conversation on Healthy School Meals for All! 🍎 In this compelling piece supporting Healthy School Meals for All, Last Week Tonight host John Oliver highlights crucial research from the Food Research & Action Center (FRAC) on the impact of school meals. Citing FRAC’s 2022 Large School District Report, Oliver noted: “A survey of school districts representing over 5 million students found that in 2021, average daily participation increased by 1.4 million, with 95 percent of districts reporting it reduced child hunger, and 82 percent reporting the program supported academic achievement. In short, way more kids were eating every day, and it was helping them in school.” Let's support the cause for #HealthySchoolMeals and ensure every child gets the nourishment they need to thrive in school and beyond. #ChildNutrition #EndChildHunger #AcademicAchievement #CommunityImpact #FRACResearch
