Naming, Branding & Packaging for Umaki — a brand of sauces that take your taste buds on a trip around the world 🌎 We coined the name “Umaki” by combining “umami,” the Japanese concept of savory deliciousness, with “umak,” the Croatian term for sauce. Umaki offers a range of raw sauces inspired by global culinary traditions, emphasizing umami flavors to elevate dishes to an international culinary standard. The logo draws from the Japanese origin of “umami,” while the label design incorporates stylized national flags, hinting at each sauce’s unique flavor and origin. "Hello LinkedIn community, I hope you're all having a great day! It's been a busy week for me, and I'm excited to share some valuable tips from my journey as a food stylist. But before we dive into that, I want to express my gratitude for the wonderful surprise birthday party my colleagues and work assistants threw for me a few days ago. Their thoughtfulness truly touched me. Now, let's get back on track. These tips I'm about to share have proven crucial in my food styling endeavors, and I recently put them into practice. Here are my top five: 1) Create Layers 🍱 Food styling is a meticulous art, and adding layers can elevate your visuals. Consider placing a napkin alongside plates and cutlery to craft visually captivating images. 2) Work with Fresh Ingredients 🌿 Fresh ingredients aren't just for cooking; they make fantastic props. Placed directly on the backdrop, they infuse a sense of freshness and flavor into your images, engaging the viewer's senses. 3) Add Texture 🍜 Texture plays a pivotal role in crafting captivating images. Combine various textures, like the smoothness of a napkin with the spikiness of a meringue. Enhance texture further by incorporating rose petals or focusing on a single item's texture through a macro shot. 4) Experiment with Crumbs and Spills 🍹 A touch of controlled chaos can bring authenticity to your images. I love incorporating crumbs, spills, and sprinkles; they impart a 'lived-in' ambiance, making viewers feel like they're right there with the dish. 5) Use Fake Ice Cubes 🧊 Ever heard of acrylic cubes? These intricate plastic or resin cubes add flair to drinks and can even prop up meals and soups. They're a stylish addition to your styling toolkit. These are some foundational tips I've gathered throughout my years as a food stylist. I'm eager to hear your thoughts and ideas—each of us brings unique experiences to the table. If you don’t have imagery at your disposal, make sure your colour choice is right. There are many design projects which don’t have the budget for either food photography or illustration. In these situations colour and typography are incredibly important as they are the only items in the tool kit that you can use to convey taste, appetite appeal and in some instances provenance. Therefore, this selection process should be handled very sensitively as getting the wrong colour for the wrong competitive environment can create packaging that lacks desire. Have a look at this example. Now, this is an own brand pack from Sainsbury’s. The choice of blue with a product that lacks vibrancy means the net result is quite insipid. When you put this on shelf against some of the other more vibrant dips and sauces, it has a tendency to look incredibly uninviting. This is often where a combination of different colourways can come in to elude towards either the provenance of the dish or to introduce an element of appetite appeal. 📸 We have spent more time enhancing the brand of il Pampero at The Hari in London by working with the marketing team to update the full photography suite as we extend our outreach with strategic third-party partners to build on the great start to the year. Our team put together a list of essential factors to consider and we thought it would be a valuable share for you--> 🤳  Consider the value of a professional photographer - In today's digital world with advanced smartphone cameras and editing tools, the decision to hire a professional photographer is a crucial one. What is the intended use of the images? Mobile photography can be used for social platforms however the expertise and artistic vision of a skilled photographer can enhance images for website imagery. 📖 Tell a story: Consider the story you want to convey with your food photo. Is it a hearty pub lunch, energetic café or an upscale restaurant dish? Create a shot list and storyboard to plan out the photos. 💡 Lighting: Natural light is essential for food photography; that being said you may want to consider what service you are aiming at promoting. Is it dinner service? Shoot in the evening using lighting to highlight the textures and colours of the dishes while maintaining the evening atmosphere. 👨🍳  Showcase variety: Capture a variety of dishes from the menu to showcase the restaurant's offerings and attract customers. This will also allow for menu tweaks in the future. 🍴 Props: Use props such as utensils, napkins, beverages or ingredients to add depth and context to your photo. A tip we always use is to look at the space's features and incorporate them to enhance the brand feel. 🍲 Styling: Pay attention to the colours and textures of the food. Make sure each dish looks appetising and visually appealing. In 2022, Tabasco underwent a fiery transformation, unveiling its first unified visual identity since Edmund McIlhenny crafted the original sauce in 1868 on Avery Island. While the sauce has spiced up dishes from royal banquets to astronaut meals, its brand presentation lacked a cohesive global identity—until now. New York creative agency Mrs&Mr stepped in to craft a comprehensive visual identity that could resonate worldwide. The rebrand, themed "Light Things Up," skillfully blends Tabasco’s iconic elements like the bottle shape and diamond label with fresh, vibrant graphics that move away from the typical clichés of flames and explosions. The redesign features a refreshed Tabasco diamond logo, a halftone treatment of the bottle adding a handcrafted feel, and several other enhancements. These include new verbal icons, a modern color palette, updated typography, and a more appetizing approach to food photography, all designed to enhance its appeal across diverse markets.
