In Passover, we celebrate our freedom, but this Passover is different - our hearts are heavy with the awareness of those still held captive in Gaza. That's why this year, instead of the traditional holiday toast, we chose to focus on team building, strengthening the bonds and connections that unite us as we move forward together. A heartfelt thank you to our incredible HR team and all who contributed to making this day unforgettable. What makes an employment programme a success for 20 years? At last nights Southwark Works 20th birthday celebration it was clear there’s a secret ingredient. Southwark Works is a council-funded employment programme which, on paper, seems similar to others across the country. But there’s something about Southwark Works that makes it special: ⭐️ It’s a family. Every employment adviser across every partner organisation is made to feel welcome and part of the Southwark Works family. That’s why so many of them turned up yesterday. You feel like you’ll always belong. ⭐️ They give 110% Advisers go over and above their duties to ensure clients get the right support at the right time. This isn’t always easy when multiple agencies are involved, but when there’s a problem, advisers work together to solve it. Even when it’s not strictly part of their role. ⭐️ No-one is ever turned away. Funding criteria can be strict sometimes and it’s easy to turn clients away if they’re not eligible. But if someone in need turns up at the Southwark Works door, they get help. The team have got signposting down to an art, to ensure local residents always get support from somewhere and never feel rejected. These things matter. And it’s what’s made Southwark Works a success for 20 years.
