Have you ever felt like you don't belong in your workplace because you’re a parent of young children? Like you have to choose between “being in the right rooms” professionally at events like happy hours and company events—or being home in time to prepare a family meal or attend your kids’ activities? I have. It made me doubt my abilities, worth, and career aspirations. In fact, it's why I've never asked for a promotion until now. I couldn't commit to the face-to-face networking and get my children on and off the bus and put dinner on the table or take them to after-school activities. That's why I found this article insightful and helpful. It offers 4 ways that women can build relationships when they feel excluded at work. These are not just tips for networking or making small talk. These are strategies for creating meaningful connections, finding allies, and overcoming isolation—even if you can’t make it to happy hour. While I believe I had my priorities straight, I wish I had read this article 8 years ago. It might have changed some of the choices I made, or at least given me more confidence and support. But it's never too late to learn and grow. That's why I'm sharing it with you today. I hope you find it as valuable as I did. And as my children have grown older, I want to embrace opportunities to encourage parents of younger children to use these ideas.
