🎙️This week, Oxa CEO, Gavin Jackson spoke with Jane Wakefield and UKTN on how autonomy will address the really hard challenges businesses and cities are facing with current transport technology. “I don’t think the world is necessarily calling out for self-driving cars and robotaxis today, what they are saying is 'I need goods to move around the world, I really need shared passenger transportation to continue or grow and be more accessible to more people.'” You can listen to the full conversation on the UKTN Podcast. #AutonomousVehicles #UKTN #FutureMobility`

Advanced Air Mobility (AAM): Passenger vs. Cargo — Parallels with Robotaxis and Autonomous Trucks? 🛫 🚚 In summary: AAM passenger services will face significant initial hurdles due to high capital costs and regulatory requirements, akin to robotaxis, while AAM cargo will follow the smoother path of autonomous trucking, driven by immediate demand, lower public risk and favourable unit economics. Why? As AAM evolves, it's interesting to compare it to similar autonomous transportation models like Robotaxis and Autonomous Trucks. Here’s my point of view after listening to Chris Urmson (start at 43m27s): 🟢 AAM Passenger Operations vs. Robotaxis: Both AAM passenger services and robotaxis are exciting innovations, but the high capital cost of AAM (aircraft, infrastructure, and regulatory compliance) presents a significant barrier to entry. Just as robotaxis will struggle with profitability, AAM passenger operations will need to lower costs over time for widespread adoption. Will technology scale and capital costs decrease enough to see prices driven down to make them accessible to achieve the volume to make it profitable? It hasn't happened with helicopters. I think it will unprofitable for most—similar to how robotaxis are expected to evolve. 🔵 AAM Cargo Operations vs. Autonomous Trucks: On the cargo side, AAM has a stronger comparison to autonomous trucking. Both markets have immediate demand for moving goods more efficiently, and the larger unit economics help justify the investment in technology. AAM cargo, like autonomous trucks, will deliver clear logistical advantages, making freight transport safer, faster, and more cost-effective without the high barrier to entry that passenger operations face. In this podcast Chris Urmson discusses the autonomous trucking opportunity on the #pivotpodcast (start at 43m27s). The Kodiak Driver doesn't need maps to localize. Autonomous systems have traditionally used highly detailed, dense, and difficult-to-update high-definition maps as the ground truth. The Kodiak Driver takes a different approach. Our CEO, Don Burnette, joined Tasha Keeney, CFA and Daniel Maguire, ACA on ARK Investment Management LLC's "FYI" podcast, explaining how this strategy has allowed us to adapt easily and quickly to different environments, including off-road driving. Learn how we're building technology that enables us to safely adapt and scale at an unprecedented speed. https://lnkd.in/guWPEQbF
