Today marks the beginning of Recovery Month—a time for us to recognize the incredible strength and perseverance of those on their recovery journey. As professionals in the field, we have the privilege and responsibility to support and guide individuals toward lasting change. This month, let’s amplify the message that recovery is possible and that everyone deserves a chance to rebuild their lives. Together, we can create a supportive environment that fosters hope, healing, and growth.

Embracing Every Moment: Jenni's Approach to Recovery 🌟 In the journey of recovery, being present can make all the difference. Jenni's story during her early days of recovery highlights this beautifully. She emphasizes the value of recognizing and celebrating small victories and the importance of consistent effort. Going beyond the traditional 'one day at a time' mantra, Jenni advocates focusing on the hour, or even the minute, when that's what's needed. This approach underscores the significance of being in the moment and adapting to one's own pace in recovery. It's an inspiring reminder for us all to embrace our recovery journeys, one moment at a time. Let's take inspiration from Jenni and apply it to our daily lives. #RecoveryJourney #SubstanceUseDisorderRecovery

As we recognize National Recovery Month, it’s important to acknowledge the unique challenges and history of substance abuse within Native American communities. For generations, our people have faced hardships that have contributed to substance abuse, including historical trauma, forced relocation, loss of land, and cultural suppression. These experiences have left lasting impacts, but they have also sparked a powerful movement toward healing and recovery. Substance abuse in Native communities is deeply tied to the historical injustices our ancestors endured. The effects of colonization, the introduction of alcohol, and the disruption of traditional ways of life led to widespread challenges. Yet, despite these adversities, Native peoples have always found strength in our cultures, traditions, and communities. Today, we see a growing number of Native-led recovery programs that are reclaiming our traditional healing practices. These programs emphasize a holistic approach to wellness, integrating spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical health. By blending cultural traditions with modern treatment methods, we are creating pathways to recovery that honor our identities and histories. Recovery is an empowering journey that involves having the courage to fully embrace the joy and beauty of life, as intended by the Creator, for all us. It strengthens not only ourselves but also the next seven generations, creating a legacy of resilience and growth. This healing path is honorable, requiring incredible bravery, and is made even stronger with the support of a compassionate community. This National Recovery Month, we celebrate the courage of those on their recovery journey and the strength of our communities as we walk this path together.

Executive Relationship Leader at UKG | Certified Dare to Lead™ Facilitator | Board Chair at The Council on Recovery
So September is National Recovery Month. In some ways I feel there is "month" for everything but I didn't reflect on our Spring Luncheon for The Council on Recovery so I will. No doubt that fellow Houstonian Brené Brown brought in record breaking crowds not to talk about vulnerability but to talk about her personal story of recovery. A few key take aways: * She owes all success in her life from family to career to getting sober and doing the work that comes from this process. *“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and freedom". A quote she lives by today. Before getting sober there was no space. *If you are in business, hire one of the 20 million people that are in recovery. They are a true testament to courageous leadership as they have experienced resilence, authenticity and the true power of vulnerability (OK, She DID mention vulnerability). I have had the pleasure of being the Board Chair for this organization for the past 2 years and being able to introduce Brené was a highlight but what is more important is that one of the 1500 people in the room heard something they needed to in order to start their journey. If you think you have a problem with alcohol reach out. There is a solution. #courageiscontagious
