Their remarkable water efficiency compared to conventional crops, along with their ability to naturally enrich soil with nitrogen, highlights their potential to revolutionise agricultural practices. In light of #WorldWaterDay just last week, the importance of pulses in water conservation cannot be overstated. Their cultivation not only minimises water usage but also enhances soil health, paving the way for more resilient and sustainable food systems. Our collaboration with SIT, including their subsidiary, FoodPlant Pte Ltd, has been instrumental in advancing the production of HerbYvore #plantbased, #dairyfree #cheeses using protein extracts from pulses. So the #Yotta event in Las Vegas wrapped up yesterday and now back in Beverly, I decided to share a few of the things that I thought made the event worthwhile in terms of Workplace Elemental Technologies' time, resources and energy: 1. People. It always starts with people and there was a tremendous collection of Subject Matter Experts, Thought Leaders, Market Movers, Industry Consultants and yes, Outstanding Suppliers as well! Really enjoyed spreading the word about our ThinkLite Air Data Hall IAQ Solutions, and fully expect to see some exciting projects going forward. 2. Technology Event Leveraging....Technology. The #Yotta App had real two-way capabilities and allowed attendees to both express interest, but also chat with "connections". It also was the main pathway for the Event to push out information, reminders and Sponsor shoutouts (which I'm sure they appreciated). Impressive 3. Presentations....but with a Smart Interactive Twist. I really liked how there was a diversity of presentation approaches: "Shark Tank" style presentations, Panel Discussions, and more standard presentations -- but with a heavy dose of audience participation. Really felt different than much of what we all have come to expect from these types of conferences. 4. Tropicana Farewell - Watch the Video While you may have seen clips, trust me, as someone who was lucky enough to watch from his hotel room, the combined fireworks show, drone display and ultimate demolition of the old Tropicana was nothing short of spectacular! 🍷 Reflecting on an enriching visit to Vinexpo/Wine Paris last week! 🌍 Here's what stood out: 1️⃣ Global Diversity: Vinexpo/Wine Paris is truly becoming international! One of the most noticeable changes was the overwhelming presence of Italian exhibitors, necessitating the expansion into the International Pavilion. However, I believe consolidating Italy under a single roof would be better (traffic was much lower at the international Pavilion for these producers). Additionally, scheduling the event to avoid conflicting with Chinese New Year could enhance Asian attendance next time. 2️⃣ Sustainability Spotlight: The fair spotlighted eco-friendly practices and innovative packaging solutions, reflecting a growing commitment to sustainability within the wine trade. Particularly enlightening discussions occurred at the Gérard Bertrand Wines panel on Biodynamic practices and at the Waitrose & Partners panel on sustainable concepts (Loved & Found) Barry Dick MW, Clem Yates MW. 3️⃣Networking Goldmine: Meaningful connections were forged, fostering collaboration and growth opportunities across the industry. It's always a pleasure to reconnect with old friends and make new acquaintances (list too long to make individual shout-outs)! 4️⃣Growing Importance: Vinexpo/Wine Paris is increasingly rivaling Prowein, offering a strategic location, more affordable hospitality and logistics, and convenient public transport. Moreover, its timing, coinciding with Valentine's Day, adds a charming touch to our shared love for wine… and even maybe an occasion to celebrate it with your life Partner! Reflecting on an Enlightening Experience at ProWein 2024 🍷   This past week, I had the privilege of attending ProWein 2024 in Dusseldorf, and what an experience it was! From exploring innovative trends to reconnecting with industry peers, it was an eventful journey filled with valuable insights.   Having last attended ProWein before the pandemic, the contrast was noticeable. While the number of exhibitors was still plentiful, there was a noticeable decrease in attendance. This provided ample space to move around and little to no wait to speak with exhibitors.   One aspect that struck me was the diverse approaches taken by exhibitors to capture visitors' attention. From elaborate displays to creative marketing strategies, it was fascinating to see the ingenuity on display. However, I couldn't help but notice that exhibitors with limited budgets faced challenges in standing out.   Cost was another prominent theme of discussion. Participating in ProWein has become increasingly expensive, not just in terms of event fees but also travel and accommodation costs. Many attendees had to make compromises to manage these expenses, with some even shortening their stay. Some skipped ProWein altogether in lieu of alternative events that provided greater value.   Speaking of alternatives, there was a buzz surrounding Wine Paris, touted for providing greater value and for the location being more convenient and affordable. It's clear that the landscape of industry gatherings is evolving, and it's crucial to explore all options.   As I reflect on my time at ProWein 2024, I'm undecided about my attendance next year. However, I'm eager to explore the offerings of Wine Paris 2025 and see firsthand if it lives up to the hype.   To all my fellow wine enthusiasts and industry professionals, I encourage you to share your own experiences and insights from ProWein 2024. Indeed, not only is the brand the coolest but so are the three founders Roger Nefkens Dennis Kamst and Almar Fernhout. I genuinely think I am the person that has bought and tried every single non-plastic option of toothpaste on the European market. I tolerated some rather bland (I'm being nice), mushy creams only because of how massive the damage of conventional plastic toothpaste tubes are to planet and I was so relieved when I came across Smyle! Finally an option that was better than what we had before. Funny that sometimes we do just love certain brands and SMYLE is one for me. It's fresh, it's non-toxic for your body (many well-known brands of toothpaste contain plastics in the paste you put in your mouth too - have you checked yours?) and it doesn't suffocate wildlife. Smyle is still a young company and yet their impact is already meaningful and growing. Here's a fun fact: People who brush twice a day use an average of 1 toothpaste tube per month. That means that in 2024, thanks to those that opt for Smyle, we will have saved 5 million tubes together. But what if those of you reading that aren't already buying Smyle tried it too and we smashed that number out of the water? Can we make it more than 5 million plastic tubes displaced by the end of the year? I leave it in your hands and will report back at the end of the year. Let me know if the challenge is on.
