One of my favorite things about making films is the editing. If things go right, hopefully they went wrong somewhere in the process. Sometimes after you finish shooting and sit down to take a look at the footage, you realize everything is off. The footage you thought you got is actually the opposite of what you wanted. The lighting is wrong, the pacing is off etc.. So you say “Out of all of this, maybe I can get one good shot.” You piece it together and cringe at every aspect of this changing project. You keep going, and things are moved here, then there, then deleted, then repaired and morphed. Then you start to see something new emerge. You start thinking “Maybe there’s something here, something different.” You quickly start putting all of the pieces together and suddenly, something completely fresh is there, maybe even genius if it had’ve been on purpose. You realize slowly that this is actually ten-fold better than what you originally had in mind. You realize here that the imperfection is where true perfection lies. #filmmaking #editing #handson #perseverance #grit #imperfection

Video Editing Showcase An editing showcase I made for a short film I directed, shot, and edited in College! I only had a day to come up with the concept, shoot, edit, and sound design this very short film but I was able to push through. Editing a documentary can feel like a massive task, especially when you're staring at piles of unorganized footage, photos, and audio files. I know the feeling—I've been there, paralyzed by the sheer amount of content, unsure where to even start. 😣 In the early days, this overwhelming sense often kept me from finishing projects. I realized it wasn't just about the footage; it was about not having a clear vision for the film and lacking the right techniques to tackle the edit. But after plenty of trial and error, I've honed some key strategies that make the process smoother and more manageable. 🙌 I'm excited to share these techniques with you, so you don't end up with a half-finished project collecting dust on a hard drive. Let's get your film or TV series out of that desk drawer and onto the screen! 🚀 #DocumentaryEditing #FilmmakingTips #VideoEditing #CreativeProcess #FilmmakersLife

Few notes on how to create a first concept for your short film.
Creative, Art & Animation Director | Helping agencies and brands design exceptional stories for global impact.
How do you come up with a concept for a short film? This is the starting point I feel, and the first place where many get lost. The idea. In these past decade what I ve seen is that for clients generally is easier; they talk about their origin story, their products, if an ONG their cause, and so go on.. But when you are an independent author, how do you start with your concept? In the previews shorts I ve tried different approaches: • The Guardian is inspired by a novel written by Kafka that I ve re-adapted • Contact is a poem / speech I had in my mind and wrote down • De Imperio is a metaphor of our world • Birds & Shells a dramatisation of my experience of being an immigrant from more than 15ys. These are more or less all different approaches that share a common element, that in this case is my personal experience of X, Y, Z, each one then transformed into a more or less different visual narrative. Other authors, for example my partner, who few weeks ago won the Crystal at Annecy with her short, bases everything on other people experiences and focuses on telling their stories under an animated documentary format. These 2 different approaches at the same time have something in common, we both try to tell stories we believe are important and we want to share with other people, cause short films for how much are about you as an author, at the end, I believe, are about what you give to other people. There is no client in personal shorts, there is no glory, but is possible to reach, inspire and impact many people with valuable stories and messages. So, thinking about another short I m writing, or even Birds & Shells, how did I start writing them? 01 • Starting with a story that touched me 02 • Seeing the value of it for other people 03 • Expanding it into a story 04 • Adapting it to a audio visual narrative At the end I feel, it is starting with what moves you and making as much life experience as possible for then translating it into a visual piece. -------------------------------------------------------- #creativity #artdirector #creativedirector #education #motiongraphic -------------------------------------------------------- Below rough some camera movement and background direction planning for one of the scenes of Birds & Shells.

Filmmaker | Artist | DJ Krusty | Award winning Screenwriter, Director, Editor, Producer | Currently working on my first feature film: Mary Jane: Glory Dayze
Part 1: My Process on the Madjik and Madness of Being a Filmmaker. I just finished my first draft for my short film screenplay "Mary Jane Origin Story," and it feels wonderful to send it out now to my filmmaking collaborators for editorial review. The film is a mix of live-action and animation. Having created Mary Jane and released her character and narrative onto socials, I was inspired to delve into the prequel, and her origin story came to life. The journey of crafting "Mary Jane Origin Story" has been nothing short of a thrilling odyssey, a dance on a tightrope between creativity and structure, darkness and light. As a filmmaker and storyteller, my process is a blend of intuition, intellect, and a touch of madness. Every story begins with a spark, a fleeting moment of inspiration that ignites the creative fire. For "Mary Jane: Origin Story," that spark came from the confluence of my fascination with mythology, the hero's journey, and the socio-political landscape surrounding cannabis. The idea of Mary Jane as a goddess of cannabis, trapped in a constructed hell by those who fear her power, was both compelling and rich with narrative potential. Key elements of my inspiration: 🗿 Mythology and the hero's journey 🍃 Socio-political issues surrounding cannabis ⚔ The concept of a goddess trapped by fear and power All in Service of the Story #filmmaking #scriptwriting #storytelling #screenplay #maryjaneuniverse

The filmmaking process can be complex and challenging, with numerous creative decisions to be made at every stage. Previously, we spoke about the importance of how a good writer is essential to the success of a film. Now we'll delve into how when good writers' rooms are set up, much of the headache associated with the process of writing a compelling story is alleviated. Healthy collaborative spaces foster creativity, streamline ideas, and ultimately alleviate much of the stress in the later stages of producing the film. In writers' rooms, ideas are shared, developed, and refined. They provide a supportive environment where writers can bounce ideas off one another, receive feedback, and work together to craft compelling stories. By encouraging collaboration and creativity, writers' rooms help streamline the filmmaking process, ensuring that the final product is cohesive, engaging, and true to the filmmaker's vision. They play a crucial role in shaping the story and tone of a film, making them a valuable asset to any production. While countless screenwriters exist in the industry, only a select few have the opportunity to pitch their scripts to decision-makers who hold the power to greenlight projects. This gatekeeping often leaves many talented writers struggling to break into the industry. Additionally, access to decision-makers who have the power to greenlight projects is often limited. This lack of access can be a major barrier for aspiring screenwriters, preventing them from showcasing their work and realizing their full potential. It also contributes to a lack of diversity in storytelling, as voices from underrepresented communities struggle to be heard. To address this issue, it's crucial for industry experts, those with the power to open up spaces for new, authentic and voices to be heard, to bridge the gap between screenwriters with decision-makers. In doing this, not only does the film industry become more vibrant and inclusive, but new audiences will be created with higher expectations and greater demand. #soozhalcineemas #screenwriters #writing #writer #soozhal #cinema #filmmaking
