I live with functional neurological disorder (FND) and have experienced firsthand the challenges within the care pathways across the UK. The existing system is in dire need of restructuring to better support individuals like myself. Here in Lancashire, the lack of adequate help is evident, highlighting a pressing issue that requires attention. How can we work towards fixing this crucial gap in care? #FND #NeurologicalDisorder #HealthcareRevamp

The Engaged Brains Project, Reid Healthcare Transformation Fellow, The Foundation of FirstHealth; I CARE FOR YOUR BRAIN; Pinehurst Neuropsychology.
What are your thoughts on replacing the term dementia with "brain disease/s"? Or better yet "person with a brain disease?" As a US board-certified neuropsychologist, I use the term daily to communicate significant cognitive change efficiently. I diagnose people with it. I write it in reports to my colleagues. I use it with families. However, I am growing more uncomfortable with it and am considering a shift. I believe it's crucial to critically reflect on the language we use in the field. Has the term "dementia" become so tainted that we can't reclaim it in a person-centered model of care? Or should we fight to redefine and reclaim it? Words Matter. #Neuropsychology #BrainHealth #Dementia #BrainChange #AcademicExile

Watching a loved one face dementia is often heartbreaking and disorienting. They may forget where they are, repeat themselves, or get confused and agitated. Over time, as memory disorders damage cells in the brain and nervous system, they’ll need someone to care for them. Their speech, personality, and thinking can also shift. There might even come a day when they don’t recognize you. Knowing what to expect can help you guide your loved one through those years with dignity.
