Back in the swing of it on Power & Politics. Here’s to what will be an exciting fall legislative session with all new dynamics between the government and opposition parties.
“I think contrast is really stark between the [Liberal and NDP caucus retreat]. You’ve got the NDP caucus retreat happening in Montreal. Furthermore, when they’re not in meetings talking about new strategies for confidence motions and how they’re going to handle committees, in the evenings, they’re out on the doors.” Leah Ward, Vice President at Wellington Advocacy, joined CBC Power & Politics alongside Sarbjit Kaur and Rachael Segal to discuss NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh’s recent strategy shift after breaking the supply-and-confidence deal with the Liberals. Leah highlighted that when not discussing new strategies or confidence motions, the NDP is actively engaging with voters door-to-door, connecting with constituents and building grassroots support. #Canada #Politics #Government #NDP #Liberal #WellingtonAdvocacy

Recharging Advocacy for Rights in Europe (RARE) brings 25 leading European human rights defenders together in a two-year capacity- and alliance-building programme. As a solidarity alliance, RARE is co-organised by partners from academia and civil society: the Hertie School, the Hungarian Helsinki Committee, the Netherlands Helsinki Committee , the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights in Poland and Oxfam Novib. RARE is an exceptional opportunity for human rights defenders and civic space advocates from across the EU to meet, learn and strategise together. Apply by 28 July and take action together for civic space and the rule of law in the EU. Apply here: https://lnkd.in/eAhtCQ-G From fall 2024 till summer 2026, 25 leading staff members of civic organisations from all over Europe will take part in 8 high-quality skills and knowledge-building events (camps) as well as collaborate on advocating for protecting civic space in the EU. Participants will forge connections with and join RARE’s first two cohorts. Resource persons and expert contributors at the 8 camps will be drawn from Hertie School faculty, leading civil society and multilateral organisations as well as think tanks. Our vision is that after 20 months, participants will become better equipped to build stronger organisations and cooperate in a stronger alliance, built on collaboration towards a common agenda on fundamental rights and rule of law in the EU. The British abolitionist movement was a collective effort involving a wide range of individuals and actions. It involved politicians, ordinary workers, women, and the voices of formerly enslaved people, all working together to drive change. Elizabeth Heyrick’s advocacy for immediate abolition stands out as a key example of how personal commitment and collective effort can forge significant social progress. Reflecting on this history allows us to understand how diverse contributions can drive significant social change. How can these insights inform our approach to contemporary social justice issues? Join the discussion. #Abolition #CollectiveAction #ElizabethHeyrick #LeicesterHistory #SocialJustice
