A group of KPMG professionals immersed themselves in art, history, and the stories that connect past and present while on a 4-day study trip to Berlin, led by Theodor Paleologu, founder of Casa Paleologu. This enriching experience was designed to enhance their leadership skills and provide a fresh perspective on learning. Each year, we bring together standout KPMGers who have excelled through their achievements and contributions to various projects, with the aim of shaping their leadership journey. The trip offered an incredible opportunity to explore iconic cultural landmarks such as the Altes Museum, Neues Museum, Bode Museum, and the Berlin Wall Museum among many others. This Berlin trip marked the third of its kind, following memorable journeys to Florence, Italy and Athens, Greece. We look forward to many more trips that continue to contribute valuably to our team’s development. #LeadershipDevelopment #StudyTrip #TeamJourney #KPMG #GrowInRomania #GrowInKPMG

💡 Who are the key stakeholders in the organizations when talking about #DiversityEquityInclusion? Kasper Jelsbech identifies 3 types of executives who navigate this base: 1️⃣ People with specific personal experiences which gives them empathetic understanding of the moral importance of DEI - these become your DEI Ambassadors. 2️⃣ Others, who work in the field where you need to attract and retain talents - with them you need to talk about how DEI can improve talent attraction and retention. 3️⃣ The ones who are really preoccupied with other important processes, such as transformation programs, digitalization, the green transition, the merges, the acquisitions, etc.- you need to show them that DEI, when implemented at the leadership level, is a way for them to accelerate, to increase effectiveness and to succeed with those transformations. I transform chaos into order in business processes through data, creativity, and strategic decisions, ensuring your competitive edge. | Leadership & Storytelling
How My Biggest Leadership Failure Became My Greatest Lesson I thought I had everything figured out. I took the microphone from the Chief Elder, stepped onto the stage, and shared my manifesto. This speech was the final push in my campaign for the Guild Representative Council role. After a year in various leadership positions, I wanted a big challenge, something transformative. But reality often defies plans. When the returning officer announced the election results, my heart shattered. I had lost. The world seemed to tilt, leaving me unsteady and hollow. Seeking refuge, I found shelter under a large tree, its roots like arms holding me as I cried. My friends called, but I ignored them, trapped in a failure I couldn’t escape. Eventually, my tears dried, and I found the strength to answer their calls. They approached me, their faces filled with concern and warmth, lifting me in their embrace. We cried together, but our tears soon turned to laughter, reclaiming a moment of joy. As they set me down, my phone beeped—it was an email from the international internship I had applied for months ago, inviting me to choose an interview slot. Fate wasn’t done with me yet. My opponent, who won the election, received the same email. I called to congratulate him, but I was focused. I chose the earliest interview slot, determined to seize the opportunity. The interview felt like a lifeline. I gave it my all. When the results came in, I was stunned—I was one of only four people chosen from across Africa to intern in Arizona. This victory, coming right after my defeat, was more than just a win—it was redemption. This experience reshaped my understanding of success and failure. Life’s detours often lead to unexpected rewards. That loss, which felt like the end, was the beginning of something greater. To the transformative leader reading this, remember that you are defined not by what happens to you but by how you respond. Failure is not the end; it’s a stepping stone. Take time to process your losses, and do not let them hold you back. Return with determination—your greatness is still waiting. Trust your journey, and you will make it happen. #LeadWithStories

"Scaling New Heights: Lessons in Leadership from Ben Nevis" Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to step away from the office and spend some quality time with my family. Among the highlights was a challenging yet rewarding climb up Ben Nevis with my 8-year-old daughter, Bella. Admittedly, as we tackled the steep paths, shrouded in thick cloud cover, rain, and fog, I second-guessed my decision. It was a demanding journey, especially for such young legs—it took us 9 hours to reach the summit and return. But reaching the top together, witnessing Bella's determination and strength, was nothing short of inspiring. Following this climb, I saw an amazing transformation in Bella. She was buzzing with energy and positivity. Her accomplishment of climbing the UK’s three highest peaks at just 8 years old has filled me with immense pride. This experience has been a profound reminder of the importance of nurturing growth and recognising achievements, not only as a father but also in my role as a Managing Director. Encouraging and celebrating these milestones is vital—it’s about more than reaching summits; it’s about the lessons we learn and the confidence we build on the journey. Leadership is about inspiring others to undertake challenging journeys and recognising their achievements along the way. Whether on a mountain or in the workplace, it's our privilege and responsibility to foster resilience and positivity. Here's to more climbs, more challenges, and more victories ahead! #Leadership #FamilyTime #Resilience

During our Global Meeting in Panama City, we sat down with Renee Arrington, NACD.DC, Vice Chair, Americas of IIC Partners, and President & COO of Pearson Partners International to discuss board search assignments. Renee shared some incredible insights that we will share over the coming weeks. Here is the first question we asked: What do you look for in first-time board candidates? "I look for a couple of things. Firstly, what experience does that candidate have with a board of directors? Do they report to that board? Have they attended and presented at meetings? So, what's their experience base in terms of their current employer's board? Secondly, have they taken the opportunity to gain any board governance certifications? There are many organizations that offer such certifications. For example, the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) has a certified directorship program. The Private Directors Association and 50/50 Women on Boards also offer board readiness training. Lots of groups provide such training. And then thirdly, do they have any references from CEOs with whom or for whom they've worked over the years that say, "Hey, this candidate really is board ready"?" Thank you, Renee Arrington, NACD.DC, and the team at Pearson Partners International (IIC Partners: Dallas), for participating! #boardsearch #boards #leadership #executivesearch

I enjoyed reading this piece. My son graduated high school this month, and the speeches carried similar messages. These days, I’m thinking about celebration from a new angle. As a solopreneur, I no longer benefit from company recognition of my milestones and accomplishments. I have to learn to take time to celebrate my moments. And while pizza parties and Starbucks gift cards used to be fun incentives, I have changed my relationship with food. So I’m working on acknowledgment activities that also center my health and wellbeing. How do you celebrate your successes? #EliasPresence #ProfessionalDevelopment #CareerNavigation #Advisory #BetterConversations #StartUp #NewBusinessOwner ****** My name is Naeemah Elias, and I created Elias Presence Ventures to transform the universe of talent development and mobility. From executive perspective through management training to “own your own career”, I’m here to align the company culture with the leadership of the future so everyone thrives. Just wrapped up an exceptional day at the Vistage Executive Summit in Manchester, where I had the pleasure of witnessing our community of leaders come together to share, learn, and inspire. There’s nothing quite like the energy of a room full of CEOs and executives who are committed to pushing beyond their limits! A few standout moments: 🎙️ Brad Waldron brought his trademark energy, pushing us to rethink limitations and embrace the power of transformation. 📈 Roger Martin-Fagg gave us a timely masterclass in economic simplicity, showing us how to make sense of today’s economic indicators and plan with confidence for the next 18 months. 💪 Jaz Ampaw-Farr delivered a powerful message on being “10% Braver,” urging us all to step up with authenticity and courage—essential qualities for impactful leadership. 🧠 Jamil Qureshi challenged us to rethink the mindset behind high performance, sharing strategies used by top athletes and leaders to build consistency and drive results. And, a special highlight for me: seeing two members of my CEO peer advisory group lead impactful breakout sessions. Louise Shaw FCIPD Shaw of Omni RMS showed us how recruitment can transform from a cost center into a true profit driver, while Alister Harris of Lokulus shared insights on harnessing AI to drive business value Grateful to be part of a community that continuously redefines what’s possible. Beyond the Stars: Dr. Mae Jemison's Leadership Lesson for Black History Month As we celebrate Black History Month, let's honor Dr. Mae Jemison, the first African-American woman to travel to space, whose pioneering spirit transcended limitations and continues to inspire. Dr. Jemison's words, "Don't let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do," resonate deeply for business professionals navigating their own career journeys. A Stellar Trajectory: Before becoming an astronaut, Dr. Jemison earned degrees in chemical engineering and medicine, practicing as a general practitioner and Peace Corps medical officer. This diverse background exemplifies her passion for learning and exploration, traits crucial for navigating the ever-evolving business landscape. Fueling Your Own Mission: Dr. Jemison's quote challenges us to identify our unique strengths and focus on areas where we can excel, instead of dwelling on perceived limitations. As business professionals, this translates to: -Self-awareness: Identifying your skills, talents, and areas for growth allows you to chart a strategic course for your career. -Embrace lifelong learning: Stay ahead of the curve by acquiring new skills and knowledge relevant to your field. -Be a bridge builder: Leverage your diverse experiences and perspectives to foster collaboration and innovation within your team. -Advocacy: Be a voice for inclusivity and representation, creating opportunities for others to reach their full potential. 💡 Thought-Provoking Question: In your own leadership journey, how have you turned challenges into opportunities, inspired by Dr. Mae Jemison's powerful mantra? 🔗 #BlackHistoryMonth #Inspiration #Leadership #DiversityInSTEM #MaeJemison #BlackExcellence #DiversityMatters #ReachForTheStars
