Ghost jobs should be illegal and combatted on the level of robocalls. They need to be filtered by hiring platforms and job-seekers need a place to report these listings. Our federal job statistics consider these fake listings as legitimate. And we use that tainted data to determine our national job outlook and make important economic decisions. Ghost jobs are also opening candidates up to scams, data harvesting, and identity theft. The last thing an unemployed person needs is to be scammed.
