Our proposal aligns with Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board UPPCB goals and leverages technology, industry partnerships, and sustainable alternatives to empower change. We would love Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board to review our comprehensive proposal to tackle plastic pollution and waste management in Uttar Pradesh.  Key strategies include: Implementing a Plastic Exchange Credit System (PECS) to incentivize plastic waste collection and recycling. Expanding recycling reach through partnerships with established recyclers like Shakti Plastic Industries The Shakti Plastic Industries. Promoting circular economy initiatives by using recycled plastic products in public spaces. Utilizing blockchain technology for transparent and accountable waste management. Sharing key points from my speech at Policy Time’s Conference on “Role of EPR in circular economy & India’s post recycled market.” - It is because of EPR compliances that recyclers like @Thermowaste Solutions gets a stage to not just learn from leaders of various industries but also exhibit their work and share their experiences, knowledge and vision for India’s sustainable future. It brings brands, heavy industries and recyclers on the same table. - This conference day marks completion of a circle. We became recycler for a huge recycling company. The company was (and is) generating thermocol waste in its kanpur plant and started sending us their waste all the way to Ghaziabad, which they still do. And today we share stage with them in this august gathering which in itself says that we are doing good work. - ⁠We at Thermowaste Solutions climbed Mt. Everest 45 times in year 2022-23 in Delhi. The mountain maths being that if 1,80,000kgs of post-consumer thermocol waste (which we recycled) is staged one on other would create a height 45 times that of Mt. Everest. So had there been no recycling of thermocol in this region, Delhi would have another 45 mountains of Garbage. So this is the huge quantum of waste we are talking about. - ⁠Thermowaste Solutions by manufacturing quality recycled PS granules ( having properties akin to virgin GPPS granules) is transforming Thermocol’s journey. We are ensuring that thermocol does a journey from being outside the appliances to getting inside it after “upcycling”. - Assuming that companies would continue doing work for just environment is delusional. Economics and environment needs to go hand in hand. Grants that recyclers get through EPR are appreciated but is not the sustainable model for long run as a recycler and recycling industry would flourish and stay only when it will get higher revenues through sale of its own recycled products. More and more heavy industries should bring their range of recycled granules, only then recycling industry would become “Aatmanirbhar”. Do share your opinion on the same. #ThisDayThatYear – on June 11, 2002, our first Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) plant based on membrane technology was commissioned in Miryalguda. It became fully operational in 2003. In the extract below taken from our first-ever Sustainability Report released in 2004, read about how our first effluent treatment plant that was conceptualised, planned, constructed and implemented 22 years ago in Miryalguda for 100% recycling of effluents in our API units before the industry guidelines in the region evolved. The article notes how the plant became an oasis of greenery and a sanctuary for birds, bees and insects in an otherwise drought-stricken area. The technology was then extended to other plants in India.   We have always viewed our work in the context of addressing societal needs, where we are uniquely positioned to make positive change and impact. Our sustainability journey began over two decades ago. We led the industry in introducing a 'sustainability by design' approach in our operations. Over the years, our efforts in various aspects of sustainability and ESG such as waste minimisation and management, emissions, investment in capabilities and other areas saw industry-leading initiatives such as zero liquid discharge and zero waste to landfills.   We have a long way to go and as the article from 2004 notes, responsible corporate citizenship incorporates sensitivity towards the expectations of all stakeholders – economical, environmental and social – going beyond statutory mandates. There are an estimated 35,000 waste pickers working informally in Bengaluru, India. These informal waste pickers sift through over 1,000 tons of recyclable material per day, equating to roughly a third of the city's generated waste. Despite playing a significant role in the city's maintenance, waste picking is viewed as dirty work and it's remunerated as such. Those fulfilling this vital role in the circular economy could be earning the equivalent of as little as $2.71-$3.62 per day. H&M Foundation launched the Saamuhika Shakti initiative in 2020 in order to build a holistic programme to promote inclusive circularity.
