Last week, Anna Dewar Gully spent a marathon 5 days in Raleigh, North Carolina, connecting with several Tidal Equality clients in the higher education sector.   Like many in higher education in the US, UK and Canada, these folks have faced new challenges over the past several years that make it harder and harder to do their jobs and serve their many stakeholders, not to mention to find purpose and fulfillment.    After discussion and reflection, what we decided to do, ultimately, was to acknowledge the very real challenges AND to turn the focus to 😀 JOY, and how joy, purpose, and impact are interconnected.   And do you know what? I’m standing at my bank branch listening to the most unfortunate conversation - an elderly and unwell man, without enough to pay rent in cash without dipping into his overdraft to do so. But he’s lost and confused about what that means for the rest of his month. If banks were more concerned with equity and equitable innovation, they could train their staff to make connections to social support systems for people who like this gentleman are facing a tipping point, services like rent bank, and charities that have a mandate to assist. We could build that kind of society, that kind of banking experience, with equitable innovation if we choose to. The choice is all of ours.
