Did you know that the non-profit sector is the THIRD largest workforce in the United States? There are millions of non-profits and millions and millions of people working hard so that those non-profits can make the world a better place. We’re thrilled to be one of those organizations. So far this year, we've helped deploy nearly 500 people who have collectively combined for more than 100,000 hours of service in ensuring that people around the country receive the healthcare they deserve. On this National Non-Profit Day, we encourage you to thank someone you know who works in the non-profit sector – a little bit of gratitude goes a long way!

Alexis Dowell had lunch with DFW Nonprofit Resource Group. They discussed how to best serve our non-profit clients. Did you know that almost 20% of Risch Results' clients are non-profit organizations? So, why do we love working with non-profits? First and foremost, we're supporting our community. Non-profits provide resources that make DFW a better place to live, which helps attract the best candidates and talent from other places, adding to our for-profit pool of talent. Working with non-profits also adds to our brand name. At Risch Results, we're centered around our values: having a can-do attitude, doing the right thing, being solution-focused, and being generous and caring. This is the brand image we strive for, and working with non-profits challenges us to walk the walk and not just talk the talk. Lastly, our recruiters connect to the mission and feel purpose when working with non-profits. This adds to enjoyment at work and aids in retention and work satisfaction within our own team. Thank you, Eric Zarko, for putting together such a wonderful lunch and allowing us to have this discussion. #DFWNonprofitResourceGroup #NonProfit #CommunityService #RischResults #Values #Purpose #WorkSatisfaction

What are the most common misconceptions about the non-profit industry? There are several common misconceptions about the non-profit industry. One is that all non-profits are small and have limited impact. While it is true that many non-profits are small, there are also large organizations that have a significant global reach and make a substantial impact. Another misconception is that non-profits are not efficient or well-run. While there are certainly examples of poorly managed non-profits, many organizations are highly effective and have rigorous systems in place to ensure transparency and accountability. Additionally, some people believe that non-profits should not generate any revenue. However, generating revenue is often necessary for non-profits to sustain their operations and continue their work. Finally, there is a misconception that non-profits are solely focused on providing direct services. While many non-profits do provide direct services, others focus on advocacy, research, or policy work to address the root causes of social issues.

The biggest crisis in the non-profit sector is not a lack of generosity. And it’s not hosting too many events. The biggest crisis in philanthropy is how few young professionals want to commit to non-profit work. Young professionals see burnt out development directors working 60-80 hours per week trying to meet lofty goals. It turns out that young professionals are not inspired by working lengthy hours, working 2-3 jobs in one, and earning 50% what they could in a for-profit company. Yes, mission is extraordinarily important. Yes, working in the non-profit space does require some level of sacrifice But you can’t rely on mission and sacrifice alone to keep your non-profit running in 25-50 years. You need staff for that. Am I off base? I’ll see you in the comments!

Posting an idea for a non-profit. Hoping to hear some comments on its viability. The idea is to build a medium that takes authentic problems from people to the government in a non-confrontational and structured format. People will get to then see how the government responded to their problems. As time progresses, people will understand the qualities of their public representatives. This will help them make better choices. This would a non-profit enterprise.

These green flags are amazing. 💚 But not just because they help create a healthy work environment for non-profit professionals... Non-profits with a healthy culture have a higher chance of being successful and supporting their mission better too! Can you think of any green flags that we left off our list? #nonprofitgreenflags #nonprofitculture #worklifebalance #nonprofitwork #nonprofits #nonprofitorganizations #nonprofit #nonprofitorg

Non-profits can't make a profit: Non-profits can earn money, but they can't distribute it to private individuals. Any earnings must be reinvested back into the organization's mission. Non-profits are all about handouts: Many non-profits focus on empowering communities and fostering self-sufficiency. Non-profits are inefficient: Non-profits can be just as effective as for-profit businesses, and many use data to measure their impact. Non-profits only rely on volunteers: While volunteers are important, many non-profits also have paid staff to keep their organizations running smoothly. Non-profits are unprofessional: The non-profit sector employs a wide range of highly skilled professionals.

One of our favourite non-profits reached out as they had way more on their people to-do list than was possible. We worked with the client and their team to review their strategy, priorities and develop a clear plan for 2024. Who doesn't love rolling into the new year super organised? Some common misconceptions about the nonprofit industry include: 1. All non-profits are small and volunteer-run: While many non-profits are small grassroots organizations, there are also large non-profits with significant budgets and staff members. 2. Non-profits don't need to be financially sustainable: Non-profits still need sound financial management to operate effectively and fulfill their mission in the long term. 3. Non-profits don't pay their employees: Non-profit employees are typically paid; however, their salaries may be lower than those in the for-profit sector. 4. All non-profits are automatically tax-exempt: Non-profits need to apply for and meet specific criteria to obtain tax-exempt status from the IRS. 5. Non-profits should focus solely on altruism and not profitability: Non-profits can be both mission-driven and use sustainable business practices to generate revenue to support their programs.
