Jenni Tiernan and I have been out and about this week attending the Australia Malaysia Business Chamber (Western Australia) and Commonwealth Bank of Australia event. In short … the AMBCWA & CBA 😂 This event was centered around Manufacturing Insights in Western Australia and included presentations on the CBA Manufacturing Insights Report and the development of manufacturing businesses in WA. There was a lot of talk about supply chain disruption and how it effects business. Along with references to not only the cost of living crisis, but also the cost of business crisis. Our tight labour market was mentioned several times, along with our low unemployment rate. WA’s high manufacturing wage was also mentioned but also how our manufacturing performance has strongly rebounded during and following the pandemic. I put my hand up for knowing about ESG (Environmental, social, and governance), and then quickly regretted it as it now appears that I actually know nothing. Our ties with Malaysia were explored with speakers noting the stability and the increased technology within the region. (When it comes to shipping, I also note that the proximity to our state from Malaysia is also very handy!) One other interesting presentation was on SIFT and how it is assisting Western Australia’s food production businesses. SIFT is more than just a high-tech facility, it’s a place where new and existing food businesses can use factory-scale resources and get expert advice. I took a lot of photos of the slides, only to have them turn out with a rainbow like effect through each and every one. Also, at some of these events, it is hard to get a really good “banner” photo, so here you have a selfie of Jenni and I (with the event photographer!). Somehow the picture of my dessert turned out better. This event was very well organised, and all the speakers were informative and engaging. We both look forward to the next one.
