We've been seeing the same trend at Smart Twigs as Matt Watson at Full Scale. As Thomas Dohmke at GitHub points out, there seems to be an incredible growing demand for Senior Engineers that can use AI and LLMs like Google Bard, OpenAI's Chat GPT and GitHub Copilot to multiply output, despite the results in performance. Bottom line, there is still huge demand, but to some degree a higher bar to meet. One of the most effective, yet underutilized approaches to land a fantastic job is to contribute to open source! When hiring developers: hire code readers, not code writers. AI will write code for developers, and they must review it. Are you hiring engineers who can keep up with this? The ability to rapidly read ANY code is essential for devs. The future of software development looks like this: AI will write most of the code, and engineers will need to focus on reviewing and refining it. Many engineers love to code but avoid reading and reviewing the code. Here is how to prepare: - Test for efficient code reading during interviews - Build systems for efficient code review - Support experimentation with AI tools - Test AI code generation and manual review (some use cases are better than others) Keep in mind that: - Currently, AI is limited in its ability to code, but it will get better - Working with code is only a part of the dev job, so even if you eliminate 80% of coding tasks, it has limited effect on the overall productivity

These are some excellent observations. If this "first AI software engineer" is so "state-of-the-art", can pass engineering interviews ("from leading AI companies", however that's relevant), and "has even completed real jobs on Upwork"...why aren't they dogfooding it for their own website?
