📣 Plan Your Power: Women's Rights Advocacy Planner 💪🏾 We ❤️ this toolkit from Sharon Smee and Jessica Woodroffe with contributions from Beverley Duckworth and Tracy McDiarmid for the International Women's Development Agency (IWDA) and Womankind Worldwide. 🧐 Why do we need a women's rights approach to advocacy? 🔹 Women’s rights advocacy acknowledges the deeply entrenched unequal power relations and structures that perpetuate inequality and oppression of women and girls. Addressing these foundational issues is critical for real change. 🔹 Women face intersecting discrimination based on various layers of identity, such as race, class, sexuality, disability, age, and gender identity/expression. A women’s rights approach is intersectional, ensuring that advocacy is inclusive and representative of all women’s experiences. 🔹 Women’s rights advocacy emphasises the importance of strengthening movements and alliances, which have historically secured some of the most significant advances in women’s rights. 🔹 At the heart of women’s rights advocacy are the expressed priorities of women themselves. This ensures that the advocacy reflects the experiences of women (all who identify as women). Women’s rights advocacy requires a unique approach that integrates a deeper understanding of intersecting power relations. Save and share this toolkit 👇🏾!

It was honor to share my insights about women in today's event. 1- women are lights in men's lives without them men will live in darkness. 2- women and girls are much smarter than men they do their jobs with love and honesty. 3- I have been raised, encouraged, and supported by a woman in my life (My mother ), not my father. 4- we would not treat women from the lens of beneficiaries but from the lens of rights holders, rights holders of education, health, working, living, participation, etc. 5- When a woman stands up, a family stands up, when a family stands up, a society and a country stands up and develops. #humanrights #womenandgirls #womenempowerment #womenchangemakers

A fun(?) bit of history for your Friday afternoon: did you know that International Women's Day was first commemorated back in 1911? 😮 Each year, IWD has served as a global platform for women (and men!) to advocate for women's rights and celebrate the strengths and potential of women. Over 100 years later and its themes are still relevant - a reminder of how much work there is still to do. How can we accelerate progress and start to create meaningful, generational shifts? Here are my thoughts: let's actually listen to what women and communities want and need, and invest in those. Invest in education. Invest earlier and smarter, working together for greater outcomes. Doing what I do, I get to often meet inspiring people. People with a voice, a passion, and a cause they want to share. Representation is important, seeing women and/or girls of different ages, in diverse fields with the same aim: fighting for inclusivity in under-represented fields like STEM for example. #volunteering #DigitalEducation #DigitalChangeNow

As we stand at the forefront of change, the call to action for claiming women’s rights has never been more pressing. Empowerment lies at the heart of this movement, not just in recognizing the rights that women inherently possess but in the collective effort to ensure these rights are acknowledged, respected, and upheld in every corner of the world. It’s a movement that demands attention, action, and commitment from all sectors of society. • Understanding Women’s Rights: Women’s rights encompass the fundamental human rights that should be afforded to every woman and girl, regardless of nationality, age, or status. These rights include the right to education, equality, health, safety, and the freedom to make choices about one’s life and body. • Challenging Inequality: Despite progress in some areas, the fight against gender inequality continues. Women and girls worldwide still face discrimination, violence, and limited opportunities simply because of their gender. Claiming women’s rights means challenging these inequalities head-on, advocating for policies and practices that promote gender equity. • Empowering Voices: Empowerment comes from raising and amplifying women’s voices, especially those marginalized and silenced. It’s about creating platforms where women can speak out, share their experiences, and contribute to decision-making processes that affect their lives. • Solidarity and Support: The movement for women’s rights is strengthened by solidarity and support, both from women and allies. It’s about standing together, recognizing the power of collective action, and supporting each other in the pursuit of justice and equality. Takeaway Message: Claiming women’s rights is more than a cause; it’s a commitment to creating a world where every woman and girl can live free from discrimination, enjoy their freedoms, and realize their potential. Some balked at the idea of teaching, supporting, encouraging, and coaching, white women on how to advance racial equity. Some questioned why I was so nice to white women as a part of this approach, accusing me of coddling and engaging with the enemy. Some also, bizarrely, questioned my credentials to even launch into this work. 🤷🏿♀️ Others questioned the efficacy, worried that white women may do more harm in the racial equity space than good. There were others yet who questioned the model of teaching white women to LEAD in the space of racial equity, not just serve as allies. White women have, as their greatest currency in the pursuit of racial equity, their proximity and already existing influential relationships with white men. We teach them how to leverage all of that and while there are a number of folks who will never understand this approach, and who, in fact disagree with it, I am unmoved by that naysaying and ever confident that this approach will yield efficacy and impact in incredibly potent and accelerated ways. And I’m thankful for the companies and organizations who said yes, early on to this as an idea and even more thankful to our members and participants who said yes to being a part of this work. There is nothing like this offered anywhere, and yet this particular approach will change the world. We meet white women where they are, teach them how to advocate in the places that they are already in and support them along the way. Not only do we have 1000 members now, we’ve got another 100,000 that follow us on TikTok to learn about this work. And to think, we’re not even a year old. I couldn’t be more proud of the women who are investing their time, energy, money, and effort to align with RAARE Woman Collective and create a world where racism can’t live. Women's movements around the globe continue to advocate and make a difference in women's lives. I have had the opportunity to work with many inspirational women and been mentored by them. Let's be honest I too wouldn't be here writing this post without the work of those who came before me. I believe that children's rights are linked to women's rights, because majority still continue to take the primary caregiver's position crucial for healthy attachment style. Advocating for women's rights is not just about liberating or fighting for equality for women, but it is about empowering those generations that come after us who embody compassion and empathy towards their fellow humans and the natural resources that we have all be blessed with. However, day in an day out women share with me: 🚺 Threats of abuse & violence: They are too afraid to leave a relationship because they might hurt me (and my children)? 🚺 Devaluation: They find that they have been cheated on number of times, being called names, etc 🚺 Financial abuse: That their husbands control their money, I rely on them for survival and taking care of the children etc. Let's not add to their suffering, by not saying things like "why don't you just get out of this relationship?" Instead: ✴ I invite you to think about how we can be compassionate towards women in these types of relationships. ✴ I invite you think of how we can foster empathy, compassion and respect for women through how we parent our boys. ✴ I invite you to join us in celebrating the women whose efforts have paved the way for the rights that we enjoy as women, those that constantly advocate for progress and those that continue to inspire us.
