Director, Education & Certification | Empowering Growth with Lean Passion, Coaching, & Respect for People
Continuing the discussion on team dynamics... A common issue that frequently arises is a strong focus on "I" rather than "we." This phenomenon often occurs because individuals tend to prioritize their own agendas, and immediate concerns. It's natural to become engrossed in our own worlds, but when this happens within a team setting, it can inadvertently create barriers. When we lose sight of the collective goal and neglect to acknowledge each other's roles as human beings in that pursuit, we risk a reduction in empathy, collaboration, and the healthy exchange of creative ideas. This tendency can also stem from a fear of vulnerability, where team members may hesitate to open up about their personal lives or concerns. However, recognizing this pattern is the first step towards addressing it. Let's strive to foster a "we" mentality for greater synergy and success as a team. I am often reminded of a commencement speech by David Foster Wallace. The shortened version is just as powerful: https://lnkd.in/g8F-FjHY 🚀 #Teamwork #Collaboration #TogetherWeAchieve

People have different perspectives due to a multitude of factors such as personal experiences, social environmental, culture & beliefs and etc. Encouraging different perspectives is crucial for several reasons: Innovation and Creativity: Diverse perspectives bring a variety of ideas and approaches to problem-solving, leading to innovation and creativity. When people from different backgrounds, cultures, and experiences come together, they can offer unique insights that may not have been considered otherwise. Better Decision Making: When diverse perspectives are taken into account, decision-making tends to be more robust. It helps to identify potential blind spots and biases, leading to more well-rounded and informed decisions. Understanding and Empathy: Exposure to different perspectives fosters understanding and empathy towards others. It helps break down stereotypes and prejudices, promoting a more inclusive and harmonious society. Personal Growth: Engaging with different perspectives challenges our own beliefs and assumptions, fostering personal growth and intellectual development. It encourages critical thinking and a willingness to consider alternative viewpoints. Conflict Resolution: In situations of conflict, understanding different perspectives can facilitate resolution by helping parties empathize with each other's concerns and find common ground. Inclusivity and Representation: Encouraging diverse perspectives ensures that a wide range of voices is heard and represented. This is essential for creating inclusive environments where everyone feels valued and respected. Overall, embracing different perspectives enriches our lives personally, professionally, and socially, ultimately leading to a more vibrant and interconnected world. #perspectives #blindmenandelephant #knowledgesharing #dontjudge #respectandvalue #foodsafety #qaqcmanager

Continuing on with sharing St Vincents StriVe Strategy Values.... RESPECT; it may sound like a very simple 101 when it comes to achieving workplace cohesiveness, and that's because it is. Our foundations are everything and without respect, we'd truly have no legs to stand on. Below are just some of the behaviours we associate with what it means to have respect for one another in the workplace (and in life). ⭐️ Meeting others, acknowledging their presence ⭐️ Being willing to compromise where compromise is needed ⭐️ Accepting others, we are all unique in our ways ⭐️ Being able to manage expectations ⭐️ Working together, collaborating in our efforts ⭐️ Appreciating each others strengths and contributions ⭐️ Having understanding in areas that may be lacking ⭐️ Being punctual ⭐️ Respecting privacy When we think of Respect there is so much that this word encompasses and yet it is such a simple and foundational value for life. #StVincentsLismore #Values #Virtues #Respect

Principal, Talent Development and Learning @ Crown Castle | PhD in Educational Psychology | Amazon Alumni | Inclusion and Accessibility Ally | Author
The month of July has been filled with personal and professional ups and downs, adding in a hurricane and you get the perfect storm. To the point. But, if you know me, you know I don’t let circumstances and uncertainty take control. As normalcy returned to Houston this week, I was especially looking forward to facilitate one of our Inclusion workshops for Houston teammates. Under Michelle Weiners leadership and with the support of Megan Hogle (we miss you!) we have built something very powerful here at Crown Castle. And I am continuously impressed by the work our very own teammates put into facilitating these workshops, with passion and heart while navigating change and uncertainty. Our internal facilitator cohort is - in my mind - a testament of our cultural aspirations. After co-facilitating with Sandra Pierce and Laura Dreelin, PHR, SHRM-CP in previous workshops, I was able to do so with Niv I. this week. I work closely with her and yet she surprised me with a side of humor I hadn’t seen in her before. THAT reminded me on what I love the most about our culture and work. It sounds cliché but the people, the diverse perspectives, new facets, and interactions are a motivator for me to keep showing up and doing my best work, for myself, the team and the organization. I constantly seek to understand myself and others better to do better. And that’s why inclusion is so important to me. I see the benefits in our daily work and love to educate, remind, and support the commitment to invest in inclusion. After all, inclusion and the tiny changes we incorporate to be inclusive, are contagious - just like a yawn or a - as Niv would say - sneeze! #InclusionMatters #DEI #HighPerformanceTeams

When we don’t have our end goal in mind, it can be difficult to take the important steps necessary to accomplish what we set out to do. It’s like trying to get to a new destination without using a map. Erin Hedges, President of Hedges, agrees. “Begin with the end in mind (Stephen Covey). Too often, we miss greater achievements when we aren’t aligning our daily efforts to a defined goal.” How do you like to stay focused on the bigger picture? #helpfulhints #goalsetting #intentionalplanning #teamhedges
