If gene edited foods become more common on your plates, is that a sign of scientific progress, or a sign of how unsettling and “unnatural” our food systems have become. I really enjoyed talking with Lauren Crossland-Marr for the #Feedpodcast, who guided us through how CRISPR is different in some ways from GMOs and not in others, and whether a CRISPR tomato tastes different than a 'normal' one. Plus we explore different views on what is a best case scenario for CRISPR's application in food systems. But the main thing I liked about our conversation was digging into how our values interplay with the science here. This date serves to highlight worldwide research on the unique structure and multiple functions of DNA’s biological cousin. #WorldRNADay #RNADay RNA comes in many shapes and forms, and can have a multitude of roles: from helping processes like translation to controlling gene expression and even silencing selfish genetic elements. The group of Arturo Marí-Ordóñez at the GMI studies the RNA-based mechanisms that silence transposons in various plant models.
