We were excited to see a recent survey that showed Gen Zers are increasingly looking at the Skilled Trades for more job security. In a 2023 commissioned survey by Jobber, high-school and college-age respondents said that they thought blue-collar jobs were offering better job security than white-collar jobs. The reason sighted was the growth of AI. Vocational training provides good wages, offers room for advancement, and doesn’t leave the student burdened with debt. Since 2018, Vocational Training program enrollment has increased 16%. Those studying construction trades have increased by 23% and students studying HVAC/Vehicle repair by 7% according to National Student Clearinghouse. This is also in a landscape where job openings in construction alone increased 7.8% over this time last year (Associated Builders and Contractors). For information on skilled trades training, consider Prosser, Ivy Tech or The Building Institute of Louisville. There are several schools around. Just do your research. Each year, the Shireman Family is proud to offer scholarships to 4 Harrison County students looking to further their career in the skilled trades. For more information on this scholarship, go to the Harrison County Community Foundation Scholarships page.

This article is an excellent example of how employer-endorsed education and training help individuals chart their futures and employers fill high-skilled jobs. The Cape Fear Community College 10-week electrical linework program prepares individuals for careers in the utility industry with a starting salary of around $50,000. Duke Energy Corporation and additional employers are hiring from this program and similar ones across the state. This is a prime example of the type of program suitable for student financing via The Forward Fund. The Forward Fund pairs with existing scholarships to support living expenses beyond tuition and fees, allowing more individuals like Harrison to take advantage of these short-term training opportunities that lead to high-wage careers. https://bit.ly/4647vwt #talent #jobs #training #education #energy #trades #skills #workforce #nextgeneration #economicmobility #northcarolina #chartyourfuture Meaghan Dennison

How Can I Find a Fulfilling Career Beyond College and Trades? Answers: https://lnkd.in/gbu4xdwu #CareerChoices #LifeAfterHighSchool #LearningDisabilities #SeekingAdvice Hey everyone! 😊 I’ve been in a bit of a rut lately and I could really use your insights. So here’s the situation: I graduated high school without a clear plan and decided to give the trades a shot. After 3 strenuous years as a plumber, I realized that I was pretty miserable most of the time. At 22, I finished my plumbing schooling, but then struggled to find work due to the pandemic’s impact on new construction. Not wanting to keep at it, I decided to pivot to something else, but it’s been a bumpy ride. 🛤️ For the last couple of years, I've been bouncing between part-time gigs and random courses, with not much to show for it. On top of that, I have ADHD and a learning disability, which makes it super hard to keep up with school work—especially math, which feels like a must for any decent-paying job. 😩 I often get told to go back to trades when I mention my studying struggles, but that doesn’t really help boost my confidence. I feel kind of lost right now. It ...
