I am typical of many women at the BBC. We do our work, care about our mission and believe in bringing value to our jobs, colleagues and organisation. But a year ago I decided to go a step further by sharing my 30 year expertise as a communicator and leader more publicly. This is because I’m at a stage in life where I’m contemplating what my next decade will hold, and it’s only by being visible that we can propel discussions with others about how mutual and complementary skills can align to bring greater value to life and work. I am now delighted to find myself to be an Age Irrelevance Ambassador, a fellow at Society of Leadership Fellows at Windsor Castle. Also at the The RSA (The royal society for arts, manufactures and commerce), and an advisory board member for Noon, and a mentor for Students at Joseph Chamberlain College and YDWC Network, plus much more, all of which have helped shape my vision and purpose in areas such as: 👉🏾 How to use tech to democratise learning. 👉🏾 How to realise the “long tail” of learning to bring legacy value to a project. 👉🏾 How collaborative partners help reach bigger audiences. 👉🏾 How stakeholders can return more than once if they feel their voice is a continuing thread in a project. 👉🏾How an understanding of different audiences helps design targeted learning experiences. These new experiences have definitely helped shape my BBC Academy Fusion work and directed me to commission an exciting calendar of learnings (shared via conferences and talks) that not only continue to reach target audiences but are increasingly financed by the stakeholders. This frees resources to plough into other projects and delivers greater value for money to licence fee payers. My project: BBC Academy Fusion is celebrating its 10th anniversary, having delivered numerous lunch learnings and industry conferences where knowledge exchange has been of great value - continuing long after the event. A fringe benefit of sharing my experience more widely is that it has resulted in me evolving into a speaker, chair and host in many an illustrious setting! This week I am looking forward to sharing my knowledge with a stellar group at Salesforce HQ! Wish me luck! #eventmanagement #eventindustry #eventdesign #audienceengagement #editorial #valuesdriven
