We're pleased to note that the ABV Barrel Shop is the exclusive retailer in the State of Missouri for Old Louisville Whiskey Co. For those of you not familiar with Old Louisville, they are a brand that is on fire out of Louisville, Kentucky. They are known for offering older sourced whiskey and some unique finishes. We've got four exciting new barrel picks in from Old Louisville: 1). An 8-year-old 104 proof brandy cask finished bourbon. The brandy cask was a vintage offering from 1948, offering some very different tastes to a brandy cask finished product. This one goes for $100. 2). A 7-year-old 118 proof wheated bourbon offering. This one goes for $100. 3). A 7-year-old 125 proof double oaked bourbon. The secondary cask used to finish this one was a French Oak barrel. This one goes for $150. 4). A 16-year age stated (17-year liquid) bourbon that comes in a whopping 154 proof! While this one earns its stripes as a HAZMAT offering, it drinks well below that proof and is an excellent sipper. This one goes for $400. Hey, we understand that's a big investment in whiskey, but this is truly a unicorn... a bourbon that age and at that proof, there really aren't any comps out there. Please note, all bottles come in a velvet bag like the one in the center (the HAZMAT offering comes in a red bag, the rest are black). Also, we have all available to taste other than the HAZMAT offering. There's just too few of those in inventory to have on the Tasting Bar.

Owner at SIP Spirits Consulting | Creator of the Flavor Camp™ Tasting System | Writer & Spirits Awards Judge
As we hold on to the last remnants of summer, let's talk tequila. While there’s an ongoing discussion about the use of additives in tequila, these blind-tasting results kind of speak for themselves. This summer we conducted multiple taste challenge masterclasses that had consumers and bartenders blind tasting 8 tequilas. For the first time, we actually employed black tasting cups so that the color wouldn’t give away the brand/type - because at Flavor Camp, we’re focused on #flavorfirst Based on more than 100 consumers’ written feedback (all based in Vancouver, BC), it appears that the Anejos reigned supreme with Casamigos Anejo, Espolon Anejo & Hornitos Cristalino (which is a charcoal filtered anejo), were the top three picks based on taste. Personally, I’ve been an enormous fan of the new-wave of ‘Rosado’ tequilas being released by brands and wanted to market test them and it seems that they resonated more, profile wise, with Bartenders, than consumers. So what kinds/brands of tequila are you drinking currently and why? Let’s start a conversation.

All of our cocktails come pre-mixed so they’re ready to shake, pour and enjoy. We take our mixology very seriously, which is why our drinks always comprise of three key components: Base – the spirit on which the cocktail is based such as rum, vodka or whisky. Modifier – the ingredient added to the base to give the drink character and tone down the potency. Popular examples include fruit juices, cream, vermouth and Champagne. Flavouring – these give the drink a finishing touch to enhance its taste and appearance. Bitters and syrups such as Grenadine are often used because of their taste and vibrant colours. #cocktails #mixologists #cocktails #cocktailgifts #gift #giftideas

💧 The Unsung Hero of Flavor: Water 💧 Ever stopped to think about the role water plays in the beverages we love? From the frothy goodness of a morning latte to the complex flavors of a single malt Scotch, water is the unsung hero behind our favorite drinks. Quality, taste, and consistency aren't just buzzwords in the beverage industry; they're the benchmarks of excellence. And it all starts with water. For brewers, water isn't just a necessity; it's the canvas upon which they paint their flavor masterpiece. Whether crafting a crisp lager or a rich stout, brewers rely on water treated to rigorous standards to ensure each sip is just as satisfying as the last. But it's not just beer that owes its greatness to water. Whiskey aficionados know that the source of their favorite dram's water can make all the difference. From the peaty streams of Islay to the clear springs of the Highlands, the unique characteristics of local water sources impart distinct flavors to Scotch whiskey, making each bottle a tribute to its terroir. So, the next time you raise a glass, take a moment to toast the unsung hero of flavor: water. Without it, our favorite beverages wouldn't be quite as magical. #Water #FoodandBev #QualityControl
