Interesting information provided by agave spectator. A little hiccup in tequila production and volume for 2023, but this is what stood out to me....... https://lnkd.in/evybRFNw #2 SPIRIT IN THE US Tequila Revenues Grew by 8% as the #2 Spirit in the US. Tequila Breaches The 30 Million 9L Case Level, Edges Out American Whiskey. Record setting 2023 US Tequila consumption grew over 5% by volume to exceed 30 million 9L cases for the first time ever, narrowly overtaking American Whiskey as the #2 Spirit consumed in the USA by volume. Revenues from US Tequila increased 8% to record levels in 2023, gaining additional market share over American Whiskey, and narrowing the gap with US Vodka which continues to lead US spirit consumption in volume and revenue. Vodka, however, has suffered two consecutive years of revenue and volume declines, which at these current trends could allow Tequila to further narrow the gap with Vodka’s US revenues in 2024. So tequila (& most agave based spirits) are here to stay and are a growing force. They are not a one-off or just for celebrations. If you want to create an agave based RTD, a private label tequila brand, or bulk tequila or to just start a tequila investment fund (this is a growing trend!) DM us today. Agave spirits, led by Tequila, are surging in popularity, with Tequila recently overtaking American whiskey in the US market. Despite Tequila's dominance, Mezcal is also gaining attention, particularly in the US and Mexico. Handcrafted mezcal from Oaxaca, Mexico, is considering expansion into retail and grocery channels, reflecting the overall growth trajectory of the agave spirits category 🌱. Forecasts suggest continued growth in both volume and value for the combined Tequila and mezcal category, underlining the industry's upward trend 📈.#AgaveSpirits #Tequila #Mezcal #IndustryTrends https://lnkd.in/gG6KQAPs

This is why we say every Tequila is Mezcal but not all mezcal is Tequila What is Mezcal and why it is sometimes so confusing and difficult to talk about it. Mezcal has two equally valid but contradictory definitions. Traditionally, a mezcal is any Mexican agave distillate. The word derives from the Nahuátl metl ixcalli, meaning “cooked agave.” This broad historical definition still holds for millions of people in Mexico. Mezcal production, including tequila, dates back at least hundreds of years. It wasn’t until the late twentieth century that their Appellations of Origin were defined, placing geographic limits on what can legally be called mezcal. Tequila, therefore, is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey. Mezcal is defined as any agave-based spirit. 🍸 World Tequila Day 🍸 An emblematic Mexican spirit, tequila has earned worldwide success. Tequila traces its origins back to pre-Columbian times in Mexico. Indigenous peoples, including the Aztecs, made a fermented agave-based drink called "pulque". However, it was in the 16th century that the Spanish colonists introduced distillation, which is essential for producing tequila as we know it today. There are 4 main types of tequila: 1. Tequila Blanco (or Plata) : unaged, often bottled shortly after distillation. 2. Tequila Reposado: aged in oak barrels for two months to a year. 3. Tequila Añejo: aged in oak barrels for one to three years. 4 . Tequila Extra Añejo : undoubtedly the most complex, it is aged in oak barrels for over three years. Let’s celebrate #WorldTequilaDay together! 🎉 “The abuse of alcohol is dangerous for your health, please drink responsibly.” #Saverglass #Glassmaker #Tequila #WorldTequilaDay
