❗ Such an important campaign ❗
As someone who constantly experiences their name being mispronounced...
I'm not offended by mispronunciation, but I do get frustrated if I've corrected someone multiple times and they keep mispronouncing without checking next time, or if they don't make the effort to read the phonetic spelling in my email sign off before a meeting, or simply just don't ask.
I once spent 3 months in a job constantly correcting my name on a daily basis, only to eventually give up and come to accept a completely different name for the rest of the year (A WHOLE YEAR!!)
The next job I had was the first time an effort was made to learn my name, it was so weird hearing my actual name again after so long, and made me feel recognised and acknowledged.
There are so so many experiences I can talk about, and I'm sure everyone with 'unusual' (especially foreign) names can relate to, but I'll keep it short.
In the melting pot of a society we live in, it's not hard to check people's name pronunciations and be respectful.
And if you do get it wrong, correct it and move on, no big deal. I would rather you kept asking until it stuck, than default to an incorrect name.

Your name is important.
It’s part of your heritage, identity and pride. But all over the world, names are mispronounced, and regardless of the reason, it’s hurtful.
With the #MyNameIs digital tool, you can help share your and your employees’ real names by translating them into phonetics. It also encourages organisations to standardise these phonetic spellings in email signatures and throughout their business.
Your name is your story – and it should be shared and pronounced correctly.
