🎨My first abstract acrylic landscape from my course this weekend - Sunrise at Holy Island. It's perfectly imperfect and I'm pleased with it ☺️ It was a great day playing with acrylics with a great tutor who shared his expertise and wisdom. His advice at the beginning of the day was: 1️⃣ to aim to enjoy it- "enjoy the doing". 2️⃣ choose 3 or 4 words to describe how you want to feel when you look at your finished painting. How can you make that happen in your painting? 3️⃣ to keep it simple: use a limited palette of 3-4 colours to emulate the feelings you have chosen 💡The day involved a huge mindset shift for me. Moving from looking for detail and painting with precision and perfection to playing with interpretation of the landscape, looking for shapes and patterns. 💡I noticed there were "parallel" brain processes going on for me. My cerebral hemisphere felt on fire! Cognitively I was thinking in a different way whilst being creative in a different way. 💡My inner critic showed up a few times as I was stepping out of my comfort zone. I greeted her with compassion and then sent her to go off and do her own painting 😂 💡there was an action shift too. It was so liberating and freeing to paint in a different way! 🎨 Throughout the day I was given permission by the tutor to play and experiment. To let my creativity take me where it wanted to go! Late night background practice: figuring out how to draw painted rocks. The first pass looks more like a tree trunk because I was painting the color along the contours of the rock. When I redrew it early in the morning I painted the colors as horizontal stripes of strata that the wind and elements would have carved away, much more interesting and graphically simple.
