Don’t be a candidate’s nightmare story. We’ve all heard it. They found the process grueling. They didn’t hear for 6 weeks between rounds. They found the interviewers distracted and unprepared. They found the internal recruiter frazzled and late to respond. They know 5 recruiting firms working on the same job. They know 10 friends also interviewing. They see it posted and re-posted for 5 months. They wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. They speak ill of them to anyone they can. Eek. This could be your firm they’re talking about !! How can you make it better? You can contact me and we’ll make sure the skill of hiring gets an overhaul so you can be one of the rare few getting it right !!

Years ago, in a simpler time, an old, wild-eyed, crazy-haired recruiter told me to never share my best candidate 1st w/ clients. Just last week, I had three clients tell me that they should’ve hired the first candidate they interviewed but weren’t ready to and/or thought the person would be around whenever they made their decision. I’ve come to believe that if you’re not ready to hire the first individual you meet, then you’ve not done the requisite preparation to start the hiring process. Too many of us use the interview process to hone what we’re looking for, that’s a fail, even in a perceived candidate robust market.

It takes a village to hire. Yeah, it’s the recruiter’s job to attract and find candidates. However, hiring someone falls on the shoulders of everyone in the interview process. Every time a candidate speaks with somone from a company, they are evaluating if they could see themselves working with the company and with those individuals. This is why it’s so important that everyone involved in the interview process understands how impactful that role is when hiring. If you’re involved in the hiring process in any capacity, be the leading example for the company. Shout-out to all the awesome hiring teams that jump in and do what it takes to bring in great people to their companies!

Never felt so embarrassed as an interviewee when getting interviewed by a recruiter. I do think that most recruiters need to go back to the drawing board, and learn how to have a proper interview process while remaining professional. It is so sad that a company, can be so good but the people that they put in position make it so bad. Can never understand the levels of disrespect and unprofessionalism, that is not address in the workplace or the hiring process.

Interesting perspective! Showing up too early as a red flag is something not everyone considers, but it’s a good reminder—timing sets the tone. Interviewing isn’t easy, and as recruiters, we want candidates to feel comfortable speaking with us. But don’t forget, this is still an important part of the process. Treat your interview with your recruiter just as seriously as you would with the hiring manager. We share the same goal: we want you to succeed and move to the next stage! https://lnkd.in/exwFp5py

Ever had a great candidate just “ghost” during the hiring process? Here’s the thing: it might not be them. 🤔 By setting clear expectations from the first interview — outlining the steps and timeline — you can keep candidates engaged and prevent drop-offs. A simple “here’s what happens next” can make all the difference… Be transparent, lay out the process, provide timelines, and set expectations. When candidates know what’s next, they’re more likely to stay invested in the process. ✔︎ Small conversations upfront = huge impact later. ➟ Connect to catch the next two posts this week for more insights from my time at Frederick Fox. #FrederickFox #RecruitmentStrategy #HiringProcess #ClearCommunication #CandidateEngagement #TalentAcquisition

Want to hire fast? Start slow. It sounds counterintuitive, but when you take the time at the beginning of a search to get all stakeholders on the same page and make sure the goals are clear, you’ll have a much easier time identifying the right candidates, sorting through resumes, asking the right questions during interviews, and negotiating contracts. Here’s Shira Jacobs, our Director of Executive Search & Recruiting, talking about how we start slow so we can ultimately help you hire quickly—and hire well.
