When setting up for an interview - there are a thousand technical things to consider: Lighting, wardrobe, sound, set design, when does lunch arrive?… But the most important way to ensure that you get the best interview - whether the topic is dramatic or mundane: is creating an environment that makes the subject comfortable when sharing their story. Make sure that they feel confident, and not pressured. Introduce them to the crew to make them feel welcome! How to guarantee a great video shoot. We've made a bazillion* videos and here's 7 things to do for a perfect shoot 👊 1. Make a plan Seems obvious but make sure you've got a shotlist, interview questions, and must haves all prepared earlier. 2. Confirm with everyone Make sure all stakeholders are aware of what's going on - we've rocked up on a site before and the site manager hadn't been notified in advance! 3. Check the weather beforehand We planned a shoot in Darwin in January assuming nothing but sunshine... iykyk... 🤦♂️ 4. Location Scout ahead and choose a good location - even send photos to your production team for feedback. 5. Talent Do a pre-interview call with your talent (particularly if it's an employee with no media training). This helps warm them up for an interview. 6. Think about sound Are we in a truck depot during the morning rush? Best if we can get a quiet spot for the interview although a little background noise is ok if it makes sense (i.e. construction noise on a construction site) 7. Have fun 👌 You know how people reflect the energy you give them? Stay upbeat, keep it enjoyable and comfortable. Tips to consider when conducting an interview ✍️ . Dumb factor: Ask all your questions. Don’t worry about looking dumb. The whole point is to learn about the subject. Ice breaker: Make the source feel comfortable before the interview. Don’t jump right in. Chit-chat briefly. Follow-up questions: After a good response, keep it going with a follow-up question. Don’t change the subject until you’re sure you have enough info on what is being discussed. Construct chronology: If applicable, construct a sequence of events. Make sure you know the order things occurred. Blame others technique: This is my favorite point!🤭 lol! For tough questions, you can blame someone else to relief pressure on you.
