You're a restaurant person when you know the golden rule: NO. Knives. In. The. Sink. Why? Loose blades under suds can be a hazard for anyone in the dish pit, and it's bad for the blades themselves. Plus, losing blades that way can be costly - and we all know they're not cheap. And when we say blades, we mean anything with a sharp edge, even a cheese grater. This safety hack is one that I learned in our kitchens and took home with me. What's the safety measure you learned in a restaurant? Share with me in the comments! Clean as you go. Clean regularly and do a deep clean periodically. I also learned how to work on multiple things in the Kitchen but focus on each in an organized way.
I never worked in a restaurant but this is a big rule in my house!
Drop a knife? …LET IT FALL!
Safety first, friends.
Wisdom shared by an aunt: Present the knife with the sharp edge facing toward you when passing it to someone else. 😊
2 industry ppl in a household means this is our rule at home too! Our kids have very specific instructions for helping with dishes lol!
Lauren I actually learned from my QA team Corey Riha the safety/sanitary benefits of using cutting boards of different colors to avoid cross contamination 👍
If this is not the golden rule, then what is?

6moHelp Pre-bus the table, anywhere you go. My kids learned this early on - we’d go out to eat and they’d help stack the plates etc at the end of the table. The servers were always surprised! Also this helped my kids learn “be extra nice to the “workers” - restaurant and retail - because most people are so shitty to them” ❤️
