Closing out #PrideMonth, our LGBTQIA+ and ally employee resource group, Lazard Proud, hosted a series of events in celebration of Pride Month. The day started with Dress Down for a Cause, where colleagues made a donation to wear casual attire and Lazard Proud stickers, showing their support for the LGBTQA+ community. A Silent Auction and Happy Hour followed, featuring items from local and international queer artists and shops. All proceeds benefited the Brooklyn Community Pride Center, Inc. We're thrilled to announce that we raised $4,270 to benefit the Brooklyn Community Pride Center, Inc. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making the day such a success.

PSA for nonprofits & professionals wishing to grow their fundraising program! Be on the lookout for your copy of this month’s edition of Advancing Philanthropy in the mail (or online later this month) for my article “Get Q’d In: Advance Your Mission By Engaging LGBTQIA+ Donors!” Does your organization know: 👀Where to find LGBTQIA+ donors? 🤝How to involve LGBTQIA+ donors in your mission? 🤑How to ask LGBTQIA+ donors for support? 😇How to steward & cultivate LGBTQIA+ donors? 📈How to elevate and keep LGBTQIA+ donors around for a long time? Because the answers to those questions aren’t taught in standard development practices. The article serves as a starting guide for you to make your fundraising more LGBTQIA+ inclusive and start the journey to advance your mission. I help organizations and teams build the infrastructure for quality data insights that strengthen program impact and inform organizational strategy.
This morning I attended the annual AFP-GPC Funders Forum, during which three accomplished, local philanthropy professionals discussed their roles as grant makers and current funding priorities. Some takeaways to share: ✔Community and private foundations genuinely want to get to know their community partners! Reach out and connect with Foundation staff by attending local events or setting up a call. ✔Before going through the entire grant proposal process, talk to an officer at the foundation and/or submit a letter of intent to be sure priorities align. ✔Make sure your organization's/initiative's social media accounts are active and up to date. ✔ While the majority of grants do tend to be for program development purposes, this does not exclude general operating support allocation like staffing resources. And, if general operating support for sustainability is needed most, then let them know! I think about general operating support a lot as I work with organizations to build their evaluation and performance monitoring infrastructure across the organization, not just within a specific program. Association of Fundraising Professionals - Greater Philadelphia Chapter (AFP-GPC) #nonprofitsuccess #fundingopportunities #philanthropymatters
🚨 Last call for registration! Join AFP-GPC as we hear from local grantors on what is resonating with their strategic goals, what trends they are seeing and how they are adjusting to meet the changing demands of our communities. This event provides the opportunity to hear directly from community and private foundations to learn how they view their role as grant makers and determine strategic partnerships with organizations. Together we can discuss organizational priorities, engaging in a digital world and understanding grantors viewpoints. Following the panel discussion, each panelist will be available for breakout sessions to allow questions from attendees. This year’s panelists include Nicole Tell from BLBB Charitable, Monika Collins from Foundation for Delaware County and Laura Pitt from West Pharmaceutical Services. The event will be emceed by Monique Curry-Mims of Civic Capital. March 5, 2024 | 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM William Way LGBT Center | 1315 Spruce St | Philadelphia, PA 19107 Register at https://buff.ly/3OCJe9e

Last week we celebrated National Inclusion Week - a week dedicated to celebrating inclusion and taking action to create inclusive workplaces and communities. 🧡 As part of our ongoing commitment to making sustainable change that matters, our DE&I pillars focus on supporting individuals with disabilities, ethnic minority communities, and women in leadership—and we are proud to have supported several amazing causes that align with these values. 🔵 Sheffield Sports Commentaries We donated to help replace 30 digital receivers that provide commentary for blind and partially sighted football fans at Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United matches. 🔵 Muslim Youth Helpline (MYH) Our donation is helping towards the salary of a helpline officer, ensuring that their free, confidential service continues to provide emotional support and counselling to vulnerable Muslim individuals in need. 🔵 Ruskin Mill Trust Our donation helped purchase apple pressing equipment, empowering young people with special educational needs and disabilities to make and sell apple juice, which not only raises funds but has created a strong sense of pride and ownership for participants. 🔵 Kidney Research UK We supported their work with a donation to fund year two of their HIDDEN-CKD model, focused on reducing kidney health inequalities in Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnicities, and socio-economically disadvantaged communities. It's amazing to see how these contributions are already making a difference. We remain committed to our DE&I initiatives and will continue supporting causes that build more inclusive communities! 💪🏽💡 #DEI #NationalInclusionWeek #SupportingCommunities #Accessibility #MentalHealth #Leadership #DiversityMatters #Inclusion #ThrowbackThursday

Founder & Executive Director, Cohort Sistas | Advancing racial & gender equity in doctoral education | Assistant Professor | Historian of race and medicine
14 anti-DEI bills have been passed in 12 states since 2023, shuttering DEI offices at colleges and universities across the country. Ironically, many of the public institutions that award the highest number of doctorates to Black women and other historically excluded groups — like the University of Florida, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Texas A&M University — are in states that have passed laws banning DEI offices, programs, and trainings. At every level of higher education, thousands of students now find themselves without the crucial support systems they need to navigate their degrees successfully. We’re at a critical crossroads. We can either lament the fall of DEI in higher education or take action. At Cohort Sistas, we’re leaning all the way in. As universities and companies choose to abandon their commitments to equity, we're taking the lead to provide the resources, mentorship, and community that research has shown increases doctoral retention and completion rates for women and students of color. We're determined to ensure that the reversal of policies advancing equity in higher ed doesn’t deepen the already significant racial gaps in doctoral education. Our "Together for Equity" campaign is a call to all who believe in the power of education and the importance of representation. Together, we can ensure that every scholar, no matter their background, has the support they need to succeed. Join us in this crucial work 🫱🏽🫲🏾 cohortsistas.org/together #CSTogether4Equity #CohortSistas #EquityInEducation #HigherEd #DEI #DiversityEquityInclusion
🎓 Our "Together for Equity" campaign launches today, and we need your support now more than ever. Cohort Sistas has empowered hundreds of women and gender-expansive doctoral students of color to thrive in academia through mentorship and community. But with DEI initiatives facing rollbacks, our work is even more critical. By joining us, you're standing for equity and ensuring that historically underrepresented scholars, especially Black women and nonbinary scholars, receive the support they need to succeed. 💛 Make a lasting impact — donate today at cohortsistas.org/together. #CSTogether4Equity #CohortSistas
