🔵 Unlocking rail’s full digital potential for the benefit of passengers and freight transport relies on the fastest possible deployment of rail's key digital enablers. Rail transport game changers include: 👉 #ERTMS, European Rail Traffic Management System, to improve interoperability, capacity, performance and safety. 👉 FRMCS, Future Railway Mobile Communication System, to enable future-proof robust communication performance. 👉 DCM, Digital Capacity Management, to reduce bottlenecks through smart data management, run more trains on the existing infrastructure, better plan their maintenance works, and harmonise interoperable freight and passenger trains. 👉 #DAC, Digital Automatic Coupling, to enable freight capacity increase, reduction in operational time, and integration of rail freight into digital supply chains. A new governance should be designed to coordinate ERTMS, FRMCS and DAC investments and deployment to unlock the full benefits of the digital transition: ✅ Better data exchange, ✅ optimised capacity, ✅ and ultimately more trains on tracks, including cross-border. Our CEO, Michael Hopkins, spoke at #ConnectRail this week on how we are working with industry and governments to create a better rail system for Australia though our National Rail Action Plan.   Michael shared the latest updates on delivering a single national rail system to make our networks safer and simpler for those who build it, run it and use it.   It includes a national interoperability pathway for train signalling systems to ensure the safe movement of passengers and freight across our networks for now and the future.   He also highlighted how we’re working to simplify the rolling stock approval process by piloting a single national application. This will reduce the burden on operators and make it easier and faster for them to get newer, safer and more efficient rolling stock onto the network.   Together these steps move us closer to more interoperable rail networks.   You can find out more about the NTC’s National Rail Action plan at https://shorturl.at/ASWgK

🚆Real-time information can help to alleviate the domino effect of disruption.🚆 Often passengers are affected by incidents that happened much earlier in the day - and have since been resolved. For example, if three trains have been cancelled in a row, passengers who would normally wait fifteen minutes for the next train are now having to wait for an hour. Crowds are building up, complaints are mounting - even though the earlier issue has been sorted out.
