We are seeking a motivated Board Member that is committed to our cause of supporting and empowering women? Join us at this pivotal time and make a real difference in the community.
For over 30 years Inner City Women’s Group (ICWG), an independent Charitable Trust, has supported women, especially those affected by domestic violence. This support has never been more important, as the cost of living crisis puts huge stress on families/whānau across Aotearoa. We:
· Assist women through education and empowerment to make good decisions for themselves and their family/whānau.
· Prioritise the safety of women and children, families/whānau.
· Work in a culturally appropriate manner through acknowledging women's cultures.
· Break the cycle of domestic violence and child abuse.
· Offer expertise and skills training through the provision of community based services.
★THE BOARD ROLE
To support our kaupapa, we are seeking expressions of interest for a volunteer Board Member, who is well networked within their community, and committed to our work uplifting women. Experience working with clients from diverse backgrounds, particularly within Māori and Pasifika communities, would be beneficial. The successful candidate will have some understanding of governance, be able to attend 2-hour monthly meetings, and be able to commit to some email communication between meetings.
We can offer you a supportive, friendly, constructive, welcoming and structured governance environment where you will be supported to bring your best to a governance role. We will offer new trustees a welcoming experience that emphasises whakawhanaungatanga, consensus decision making from a feminist, woman centered perspective, reciprocal relationships and a full understanding of our organisation, your background and how we can work best together.
★YOUR SKILLS
Driving our Strategic Plan and ensuring we remain a thriving, sustainable organisation into the long-term, is the Board’s priority. Because of this, and as we operate in an increasingly busy and complicated sector, we are particularly interested in connecting with people that have a clear strategic focus and skills/competencies in one or more of the following areas:
· New members do not need previous experience of being a trustee, but should understand the nature of governance and leadership
· Understanding the Not-for-Profit environment.
· Some expertise in the domestic violence or social services sector.
· Ability to read and interpret financial information.
· Strategic thinking.
· Risk awareness.
