Today starts a multi-day organizing training with 75 grassroots community leaders from 7 states. This training brings together people striving to build accountable power to be able meaningfully shape and participate in democracy on a local, state and even national level. This will be an opportunity for people to reflect on their own leadership and learn from one another. Often the best potential community leaders shy away from leadership because the model of leadership held up in our society is too often that of a domination, or celebrity. The best leaders do not seek the spotlight and refuse to exert influence by fear. The best leaders influence and are influenced by relationships built on trust. Looking forward to centering this higher form of leadership over the next few days and inviting more people to take action in their own communities. May there be numerous victories that flow where the people can say "WE DID IT!"

Happy International Women’s Day! I have the privledge to lead and take part in many Women’s Leadership groups at work including giving women’s leadership talks and mentoring. I strongly believe the value behind today. You never know the full impact you can have on a person. If you're a General Counsel, take a step back and consider what your organization really needs from you. Not the people that hired you, not even the Board, but the organization itself. Failure to do so may be a costly mis-step. I am sharing 5 stories of leadership failures which I believe stems from the GC failing to fully appreciate his/her leadership roles and responsibilities. Imagine if they understood the memo that their role required them to protect the organization and not the people in it.
