Last week I had the pleasure to moderate, "Evolution of B2B event marketing: Capturing ROI and driving results" with senior marketing leaders from the UK & Ireland. Post-pandemic the B2B events landscape is going through another major shift, requiring organisations to re-visit their strategies across virtual, hybrid and in-person events, allocate budget, and effectively capture and report on ROI. Sharing some of the most interesting key takeaways from the discussion: 👩💻 The interest in virtual events is waning, attendance and engagement are dropping, and ROI is becoming increasingly difficult to capture 💻 Including virtual attendees during discussions with in-person attendees is difficult to manage and requires an expert moderator and an appropriate room + equipment setup 🎟 The in-person experience needs to evolve. Traditional B2B event setups are feeling dated and marketers are increasingly pulling from B2C event tactics (think experiences, small groups, more intimate settings) to increase tangible and intangible ROI 💡 Marketers need to understand the impact of events horizontally across the business - events can be useful tools from both a customer acquisition (brand & sales) perspective, as well as a customer retention (brand, customer experience & CLV) perspective. At the moment B2B events are feeling very sales-led, and strong event marketers will need to understand the impact of events across the entire customer lifecycle, therefore aligning with not just sales, but also ABM's and retention leaders across the business Thank you to the The Ortus Club - Executive Knowledge Sharing for putting this event together, and for having me as a moderator! And a big thank you to the guests: Aftab Siddiqui, Emma Pownall, Kate Scott, Kofo Adebiyi, Neda Arouzi, Nikki Webb, Prasanna ., Sachin Masade, and Utkarsh Middha for your insights and the incredibly valuable discussion! #eventmarketing #b2bmarketing #b2bevents #marketing #marketingROI #virtualroundtable #OrtusEvents #OrtusClub #events

Following from my last post - the summary of the Evolution of B2B Event Marketing - I wanted to dive a bit deeper into the new challenges marketers are facing in the post post-pandemic world of events. In this drawing by Draws Studio, which was designed as the roundtable group was speaking, we covered the challenges we all face: 🤝 Attendance at Virtual events is waning. People are tired of being constantly online, Zoom fatigue is real, and virtual events negate one of the main benefits of events - being able to meet and connect with others in person! 📈 B2B events are still very sales driven 💰 They often lack operational and budgetary support from organisations, even though they are a vital part of the Lead Gen mix 📊 There are high hurdles to getting funding at all, mostly due to lack of ability to define ROI outside of direct lead capture 💡 They are a completely underused element of retention and account based marketing (ABM) activities 🎪 Events are a big part of brand building. Most organisations are hesitant to put any excess funding behind brand activities, even though most customers will sign on with an organisation due to brand recognition and brand interest! 😖 Experimentation with different formats is a known necessary in today's B2B events world - however practically experimenting with, and implementing new formats for events, is extremely challenging, exacerbated by the lack of funding topic (again!) Marketers, do you also experience any of the above? Shout out in the comments below what your challenges are - let's keep the conversation going! #eventmarketing #b2bmarketing #b2bevents #events #marketing

GVP of Growth Marketing @ Entrust. Leading top performing marketing teams and building full funnel revenue engines. Sharing the leadership lessons I've learned along the way.
"Yes it was fun, and customers had a great time, but what was the ROI on the event?.. where are my leeeeeaaadddds?" Shout out to every Event Marketer that has had to face these questions 0.0001 seconds after tear down has begun. You are amazing! The amount of effort that goes into planning and executing an engaging event is often underestimated and misunderstood. Conversely, the amount of budget it takes to run any event ALWAYS catches Executive's attention and gets subjected to endless scrutiny. The cost of travel, location bookings and just about everything associated with events has increased significantly in the last few years. As a result, I often get asked about events and what role they play in a B2B Marketing strategy. So, here we go: - The goal of B2B events is to create great content that can be consumed asynchronously at scale, 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙨. - Recurring live events 𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙜-𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙩 and generate valuable insights for future events. - The main reasons people attend events are for 𝙚𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣, as well as to better themselves and up-level their skills and knowledge. - Events need to be central and 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙜𝙮 to maximize their impact and reach. - Event teams are usually among the most creative and innovative people on any marketing team. 𝙎𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙜𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙤𝙢 𝙩𝙤 𝙥𝙪𝙨𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙥𝙖𝙨𝙩 what has been done before. So, what about ROI? From my perspective it is unfair and frankly short sighted to isolate the ROI calculation of a single event. Events are exceptionally effective at building rapport with customers and can act as great pipeline maturation tools to accelerate or strengthen forecast probabilities - 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙮 when viewed and assessed as part of the larger strategy. Finally, Huge thanks to all the Strategic Events teams out there who are already signing contracts for 2025 and beyond! #b2bmarketing #b2bstrategy
