How are you tracking your investments into events? As marketing teams, we often find ourselves caught up in the delivery of events because 'we have to be seen', 'our competitors are going to be there' or 'the CEO likes to be at this one', and then the justification of the investment to show up. But do we truly measure the impact of our investments into events? I believe the key to this is to define the one goal of your event. Is it to create demand, or accelerate pipeline and expand customer accounts? We're often driven to cram a variety of metrics in our impact reports - session attendance, booth visits, interactions with speakers or exhibitors and the number of leads generated during the event, including new contacts collected because we feel we need to show the value of our investment and yet these don't answer the question 'did this event deliver what we want it to?'. So how do we crack this? By understanding the overarching purpose of our events and having a standardised approach to how we measure our GTM strategy so we can look at events alongside our other channels. This framework aligns event goals with overarching business objectives, and by doing this, we can assess the true impact of events on revenue generation, customer acquisition, and brand advocacy. Earlier today I read an interesting post on “The evolution of Events”. The future of business events lies in hybrid models, integrating virtual and in-person experiences for broader accessibility and engagement, driven by technological innovations. However, in the sphere of B2B for a very long time still, the major element of a successful event is the physical engagement between two parties. People buy from people and the physical contact, conversation and engagement can build the trust that a sustainable business relationship needs. Event marketing is a word we don’t really use anymore – its old school (sadly), but still, this discipline catalyzes dynamic brand engagement, fostering invaluable connections and brand loyalty. Through face-to-face experiences, from trade shows to high-end c-level engagements, events offer tangible interactions, driving conversions and brand advocacy. The personal touch of face-to-face interaction cultivates trust and authenticity, enriching customer relationships. “Event marketing” amplifies brand visibility, amplifying market presence and differentiation.
