We have added 3 more clients to the roster this week, all banks in California and it seems like we are starting to see some real challenges for banks here to hire into certain roles.. mainly across Risk Management.. There is always talent "out there" for these positions, but good talent is typically doing good work, for a good manager and being paid good money and might be fully remote with a very flexible schedule (as they're earned it over time in the job)...so why leave??? Especially, when you add on parameters like: - People needing to be on-site 2+ days in a certain location - Not wanting to offer a competitive salary - Not being clear on the bigger opportunity (growth& room for promotion etc) There is a huge misconception that right now there is ample talent available for every open role your company has... this has rarely been the case. Hiring is never always straightforward, is it.. LinkedIn homepages are full of people looking for work and people hiring as it is an employment platform - don't let this make you think as a hiring manager that you'll have enough options for that tough hire you need to make just because you keep seeing those green banners. Currently I'm supplying high in demand MLRO's into the Fintech Payments space all over the UK, Ireland and parts of Europe.
Some positive news for candidates about the job market :) The early parts of Q1 for candidates may well have been slower than expected, but if you're job hunting now, it's a great time to be looking and I can assure you the Governance, Risk & Compliance space is on the up. The senior end of the market is where we are seeing the biggest shift, there have been some very strong senior players active over the past two quarters with limited options, I've been told to expect to see lots of new options, with new budgets released and the conversations I’m having with decision-makers gives me confidence hiring is on the up. I just want to sympathise with candidates, At the back end of last year and the early months of 2024, the market was slow, so if you feel like you weren’t getting anywhere, this wasn’t just you, everyone was feeling it. However, I wanted to give you confidence, that the Governance, Risk & Compliance market has picked up, we are seeing lots of Fintech companies now going for their EMI license which will give lots of opportunities for MLRO's. The consultancy space has picked up and clients are winning more business, therefore we have seen lots of Consultant, Senior Consultant, and Director positions. A huge spike again in KYC remediation and Transformation programs on contract. Finally circa 10+ CCO/CRO positions across the UK and Nordics regions. There is positive language and movement by lots of new and existing clients, this is a very positive sign. Alexander Barnes has been assigned five new positions this week alone which is incredible news for candidates in the market. So, my message is clear, stay positive, opportunities are around the corner, I have confidence in the market, and everyone should be excited by this. #Governance #Risk #Compliance #jobmarket #ontherise

The private credit sector is booming, with a busy quarter for hiring managers. Our data (thanks to Jacob Chilvers) is tracking 122 moves in the second quarter alone, bringing the year-to-date total to 257! 📈 Direct lending continues to be the busiest area, showcasing its key role in the industry. Meanwhile, specialty finance is seeing a notable uptick, showing diverse opportunities and growing interest in niche markets. These trends highlight the dynamic nature of the private credit space and the demand for top talent.
