Don't let yourself be gaslit into thinking that politics doesn’t belong in professional spaces
Or in fact the personal stuff, because here’s the thing - that’s pretty often political too.
It’s gonna be a pretty interesting 4 weeks ahead of 4th July, and I sure as heck will be engaging in chats about this stuff - here, there and anywhere I can.
Nearly everything I do in my business - political
The people I choose to work with - political
The work I do - political
I’m increasingly working with folks creating safe, supportive and inclusive spaces for women, LGBTQ+ folks, people of colour, neurodivergent peeps...
There needs to be a movement that makes women more confident.
Why? Because the government has created and continues to perpetuate a system that is rigged against us.
More and more women, trans and nonbinary folk are shouted down, bullied, trolled and given signals from the media that nobody cares about their knowledge and experience.
Well I do. And I want to help you share your message far and wide.
The world of work is political. Entrepreneurship - political. Business ownership - political.
So I encourage you, in the run up to that dreaded day at the start of July to share your opinions, start conversations.
In fact, maybe it's time to move past conversation and just crack on with the revolution and bringing down the patriarchy?!

6moThis is perhaps an example of when the intent and execution diverge. While it may look like a criticism of that business to not have gender neutral toilets, or not necessarily identify as women owned, I'd consider them more as attributes. Then people who feel those attributes matter to them can search for businesses that meet their needs. I deal with many who face discrimination and anything that helps identify what is positively and action orientated towards addressing that discrimination would be welcome. In a sense, those attributes aren't necessarily meaningful to every business type, and I trust consumers would identify whether their presence or absence is contextually relevant for the type of business being sought. There's always room on the profile as well for a business to showcase how it may be addressing those attributes in other ways, which I am sure will also help consumers identify what they need.
