Do therapists need to be courageous? Yes. Yesterday, today and tomorrow. In a constantly changing world, we are consistently being asked to respond to these changes, whether or not we are equipped to do so. Clients often look to therapists to help them respond to their lives in ways that are relevant, useful and even transformative. We don't get to transformation by playing it safe, and our clients don't either. Growth really is at the edge of our comfort zones and sometimes a therapist's job is to help a client meet and transcend that edge. They have to be brave and we have to have the courage to trust them and ourselves. So, fear is a part of the journey. We help clients manage fear, not avoid it. Sometimes, we help clients converse with fear to find out what it has to say. But, we cannot take our clients where we are not willing to go ourselves. As the year comes to a close, we need to reflect as therapists on our work and not just our accomplishments, but also our relationship to our fears and how we might want to address that relationship for ourselves and our work. Learn more about your own fears with some tools and resources. Link in the comment below.

“Please remember, as therapists, we are very much part of the equation.” 🧩 “You can take your client only as far as you yourself have been.” 🚶♀️🚶♂️ Have you ever wondered about the concept of self-care for therapists? 🤔 It’s an intriguing thought. As therapists, we are often perceived as the guiding light for others, navigating through their challenges. 🌊 But what about our own wellbeing? The necessity for therapists to engage in therapy themselves is a topic worth exploring. 🌱 In this noble profession, we frequently confront our own shadows while endeavoring to be a beacon of hope for others. 💡 This dual role of personal and professional development makes self-care not just beneficial, but essential. 🌺 How can we effectively guide others if our own light is dimming? How can we fill others’ cups if ours are empty? 🥛➡️🥛 Acknowledging our humanity, recognizing that we are not infallible gurus, is crucial. 🙌 It’s about giving ourselves the same support and compassion we advocate for our clients. By doing so, we not only thrive personally but also honor the sacredness of our profession. 🎗️ I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. How do you perceive the role of therapist’s own self-care in therapy? 💬👂 #TherapistSelfCare #MentalHealthAwareness #SelfCareInTherapy #TherapistJourney #HealthcareProfessionals #EmbracingHumanity

“This a safe space”- is a phrase all of us as therapists have used one time or another with our clients. But what does it mean to make a safe space for a client? Is just saying this enough ? #safety transcends words - it’s woven into interactions. In the first session proclaiming that the #space is #safe may feel empty without the context of a genuine therapeutic connection. Would it not be more meaningful and for the matter of fact more therapeutic for the client to reach this conclusion on their own? #buildingsafety in #therapy is a collaborative process that involves both the therapist and the client. Safety isn't solely constructed by the therapist but is co-created as the client gradually brings different parts of themselves into the therapeutic space. As clients gradually reveal different facets of their #experiences, #thoughts, and #feelings, a foundation of #trust and safety begins to form. This gradual disclosure allows clients to test the waters of the #therapeutic relationship, assessing the therapist's reactions and support. Understanding and exploration are integral aspects of building safety in a therapeutic setting. Safety in therapy is about providing the #freedom and #encouragement for exploration. By fostering an atmosphere conducive to understanding and exploration, therapists empower clients to navigate their #emotions and experiences with greater #selfawareness and #resilience. This process ultimately contributes significantly to the establishment of safety within the therapeutic relationship, enabling clients to #engage more openly and authentically in their therapeutic journey.
