Thank you to everyone who shared comments and likes on my recent post. It was great to hear from many of you that I haven't been in contact with recently. The election is at the top of my mind as a Black woman. Last week's debate was particularly gratifying. In this context, we could see Trump's diminished capacities compared to his Biden debate. Biden had Covid, a cold, and a stutter in their debate, which should have been called off. This week, I joined a Black women’s group called “We Go High,” which is a partner with Isaiah. We are focused on GOTV (get out the vote) and following up with policy accountability and support. One of the most exciting pieces I read last week was in a letter from Dr. Robin Steinke, President of Luther Seminary, about what Christians should consider vis-à-vis this election. Let me know if this interests you. Action/s for the week: 1. Contact three people to encourage them to register to vote. Every state has its own deadlines. Primary season in the U.S. has been romanticized. While stories of Dixville Notch (Hartsfield Landing for West Wing fans) and the discernment of Iowa Caucus goers may fit narratives on political customs, the most recent election cycles have shown that iconoclasm prevails. My best advice for those looking to have an impact on public policy in 2024 and beyond is to look less at the daily racing form, and more at the socio-economic and geo-political trends that drive legislation and regulatory environments. https://lnkd.in/ebgQsCgF

Here's my 3 minute closing argument (we had a strict start and stop) which I delivered at Thursday's League of Minority Voters -Oregon Chapter event. In it, I talk about why I'm the best fit to be District 3's congressman. I also talk about power structures and how their determination of political "viability" leads to incorrectly narrowing candidates which then get sold to the voting public as "the choices." This process is not only outdated and nonsensical, it's contrary to representative democracy and everything we are fighting for to change about politics. If you were curious, Susheela and Maxine were not present at this event which is fascinating because 1. It's kind of an important one to attend and 2. They had 3 months notice about the event and its time, date, and location never changed. Thank you League of Minority Voters for putting on this great event. I am a member of the Wisconsin League of Women Voters, and I want to get this out to you. The League of Women Voters strongly urges us to consider voting NO to the two amendments to the Wisconsin constitution that will be on the April Ballot. It is an important election for these, and other reasons. Please take a look at the brief summary provided by the LWV, and if you are interested, there are slides that you can access as well if you want me to send the link. I am not an expert, but I am surely voting no, and I worry that it is going to slide through with people being uninformed. The wording is very confusing, and masks the complete wording that would actually be adopted into the state constitution. The amendments would prevent many advocacy relationships that help facilitate voting, and they are summarized here. If you have trouble opening the link, please let me know.
