I love going on adventures. While the actual journey itself is exciting, one of my favorite parts of the adventure is reflecting on the experience and sharing the stories once it’s over. And if I did the adventure right, I get so caught up in the excitement I start planning the next one before I’m even home. To that end, today marks the completion of one adventure and the beginning of another as G. Byron Abrigg and I’s company, Mission Control, has been acquired by LeagueSpot. As the Mission Control adventure comes to a close, I look forward to sharing the many exciting and excruciating stories that Byron and I experienced along the way. Some of them are not unlike the typical lessons learned by many startup founders and some are unique episodes I think could only happen when surrounded by the incredible cast of teammates, supporters, and customers who traveled alongside us on the Mission Control journey. A simple post on social media will never properly convey the depth of appreciation I have for the people who supported us through the peaks and valleys of the startup experience, but nevertheless I say to each of you: Sincerely, thank you. At the same time, I am also thrilled about the possibilities for the future as Mission Control joins a new adventure at LeagueSpot alongside Andrew H Barnett. Byron and I loved playing rec league sports with our friends; to us, rec sports were an excuse to spend time together and gather with our communities. We also loved playing video games but there was no similar “recreational” structure, so, we built a company that used recreational gaming to gather and grow communities, too. Andrew & LeagueSpot share in this mission and have successfully gathered communities through gaming for years. Their competition platform and range of services are the best in the industry. By joining LeagueSpot, Mission Control will be able to better serve its customers by welcoming a wider range of competitions, a more thorough user experience, and an excellent, privacy-focused data strategy for end-users. In addition (and something I am very excited about), customers will have the chance to join LeagueSpot on their new journey to include traditional sports and activities on the same industry-leading platform. Byron and I, in part, will continue on the adventure alongside LeagueSpot as they welcome Mission Control onto their platform, expand further into the recreation industry that we found success in, and broaden their offerings into traditional sports. For anyone who is interested in learning more about LeagueSpot, stay tuned for future updates and feel free to reach out! In the meantime, Byron and I will each begin to chart the next adventures in our careers - and we’ll be sure to share more soon! S/O Arch Grants, Saint Louis University, Richard A. Having worked with the Premier League, Champions League, World Rugby, Borussia Dortmund, Riot Games, to name but a few, we understand the complexities involved when it comes to building a brand that resonates with, and reflects its fans. Firstly, do not underestimate how difficult it is to get this right. It’s not simply a case of interviewing fans and using their feedback as the brief. Remember the Leeds United rebrand of 2018? There are many cases where people have got it wrong. Why do we know? Because fans will definitely let you know, in fact they’ll let the world know and they won’t be shy in holding back. They’re passionate, they’re a powerful community and ultimately, they’re stakeholders in a brand they love and care about. It is important to listen and involve fans, but it’s equally as important to understand the future vision of the business, its challenges, its ambitions, and find a solution that encompasses it all. It is also important to educate. If changes are made, why are they being made, what do they mean and how will you communicate this? If you get it right, will it be celebrated like a last minute winning goal? No, it won't. Rather, it will be embraced and worn with pride by a community that feels represented. That should be taken as a good marker of success. If you get it wrong, well it’s time to batten down the hatches. You can read more about our experiences in our Championing Fans collection.

‘Fans will paint their face purple, fans will evangelize…Every other CEO in every other business is dying to be in our position - they're dying to have fans’ — Vivek Ranadive - Chairman, Sacramento Kings At DesignStudio, we're extremely privileged to be given the opportunity to work with franchises that command such devoted fan bases. It doesn't make the job of repositioning an esports league or rebranding a soccer team any easier but it does challenge you to think about how you can engage different constituents in the process to ensure they are part of that journey. Our most recent collection, Championing Fans, highlights some of the techniques we've found helpful when putting others at the heart of a brand creation or rebrand process. #sportsbranding #esports #brandstrategy #identitydesign

Nearly half of Americans have parallelophobia, or a fear of parallel parking. So, what does that have to do with esports? Two of the best esports orgs in the world — Cloud9 Esports, Inc. and NRG — understand why precision matters, in League of Legends and in the parking lot. Today, we launched the first broadcast campaign for Kia America as an Official Partner of the League of Legends Championship Series, featuring players from Cloud9 and NRG testing the Kia EV9 and its Remote Parking Assist function outside Riot Games Arena. Allied Sports had some fun creating and producing this campaign with our friends at 1Park9. Check out this first spot called "Parallel Precision" which will run with other new content throughout the LCS Summer Split. Another example of why we love helping modern marketers like Kia make the shift from Sponsor to Storyteller. Brad Mays, Kyumin Shim, Melisa Lezama

Earlier this year, Kia US entered the world of eSports. While we have a long history in other types of sports, this is new territory for us. Fortunately, we’re guided by great partners and teams - helping us strike the right balance with the fan community. One way we do that is by giving the experts the ability to create the type of content fans want and the assets they need to make it. The only mandatory in the brief: don’t wreck it. 😂 Thanks, Allied Sports Riot Games NRG Cloud9 Esports, Inc. 1Park9 for not wrecking it. #brandmarketing #esports #contentmarketing #kia #EV9 #dontwreckit
