The Joys of Building Community Through Events There’s something magical about watching an event come to life, the laughter, the connections, the shared moments that leave people with memories they’ll cherish forever. As someone who loves creating events for my community, I find immense joy in seeing those smiles and hearing those stories. But behind the scenes, it’s a rollercoaster of challenges. Every successful event has its fair share of hurdles, unexpected "fires" to put out, last-minute changes, and keeping everything aligned with the budget. It's not always glamorous, but that's where I thrive. I love the thrill of problem-solving under pressure, of turning chaos into calm and making it all look seamless from the outside. It’s about blending creativity, organization, and adaptability to craft something beautiful for others. When it all comes together, I feel a deep sense of pride. It’s not just about the event itself, it’s about the journey to get there. The behind-the-scenes team effort, the quick decisions, and the small wins along the way. Here’s to building community, one event at a time.

This will change the way you look at connecting at events. The magic of a sticky foyer ✨ There’s something special that happens when people stick around after an event, chatting and connecting because they don’t want to leave. We call this a "sticky foyer"—and it’s the true power of authentic connections. At Synergy, we’ve managed to achieve this consistently, and it’s not something I take lightly. It takes real effort and intention to create an environment where people don’t just show up, listen, and leave. It’s about building a community where people feel genuinely connected, supported, and valued. The "sticky foyer" is more than just a space; it’s a sign that the relationships formed are real and meaningful. It’s when people aren’t rushing out the door but are staying to share ideas, swap stories, and continue conversations sparked during the event. Creating this atmosphere doesn’t happen by accident. It requires curating the right experiences, fostering open conversations, and nurturing a culture where connections are inevitable. To everyone who has stuck around to make the foyer "sticky" at our events: Thank you for being part of what makes Synergy truly special.

As we approach the holidays, my husband and I enjoy looking at all the community events happening around us. We try to attend at least one each weekend—not only to support local businesses but to make new connections and engage with the people who make our community special. Today's lesson from 52 Lessons from It’s a Wonderful Life by Bob Welch really resonates with this idea: Lesson 13: Find Your Own Bedford Falls Wherever You Live In Bedford Falls, the town in It’s a Wonderful Life, there’s a shared history and pride—a collective concern for both the place and the people. It’s easy to see why that kind of community feels so special. It’s a big part of what makes Hallmark movies so successful; almost every one of them creates its own version of Bedford Falls. But today, with remote work, online shopping, and delivery services, it can be easy to feel disconnected from the place we live. It’s more convenient than ever to stay in our own bubble, but the truth is, the opportunities to connect with our communities are still out there—we just have to be intentional about seeking them. So, I ask: What community event could you attend this season? Or, even better, what event could you organize with your work team to help support and connect with the people in your version of Bedford Falls? Let's make an effort to support that sense of belonging and pride, both as individuals and as businesses. After all, the heart of any community are the people who choose to be a part of it. 💗

Some days I tune into LinkedIn and feel like all the event advice is saying we're all doing it wrong. We're not embracing the latest trend or fad. And it can be discouraging. But then I remember the feeling of walking by a table of academics, talking about something I truly don't understand, and think "Nope. THIS is why we do events. To bring people together to talk about what matters to THEM." And it's not about how long the keynote was, or if the registration page has 2 fields or 15 to enter. It's about how we bring communities together and what is important to THEM. Events aren't meant to all be designed in the same way. When we are talking about trends in the industry we need to keep in mind that the entire event needs to be designed for that particular community. That is where the gold is found.

Community Building Myth #7: “Online events don’t need prep.”... It is a common mistake to assume that online events can be run with minimal preparation. Like in-person events, online gatherings need careful planning—structure, clear objectives, and promotion. Without preparation, technical difficulties, awkward silences, and lack of engagement can ruin the experience. Successful online events require rehearsals, well-defined agendas, and interactive elements to keep the audience involved. I would love Valentina Ruffoni's thoughts in the comments! And I'm sure Juliet Tripp has a voice in this myth :)

Show genuine interest in their needs, concerns, and interests. ✨ Provide value-added resources: Offer valuable resources, such as guides, tutorials, and exclusive discounts, to your community members. Providing tangible benefits reinforces their loyalty and encourages continued engagement. ✨Network strategically during the summer: Take advantage of summer events, such as outdoor festivals, networking mixers, and community gatherings, to expand your social circle and forge new connections. Stick to the ABCs of community building at your next event! A: Aim for Partnership - Get everyone involved from the start. Invite others to step up, initiate, share their talents and abilities. They are not "attendees" but rather your partners in the success of the event. B: Bolster Relationships - Create spaces that encourage new relationships and celebrate every voice. Work on deepening existing relationships and providing opportunities for new ones. Remember that we might come for the "what", but we stay for the "who"! C: Cultivate Identity and Continuity - Embed your unique organizational culture into the event, use the event as an opportunity to strengthen a sense of pride and set the stage for future gatherings. Let’s design events that make a difference! Join us and make every event a milestone. Photo Credit: Emily Ranquist #vardainstitute #communitybuilding

🥹Hosting events is incredible, but it can also be isolating if no one around you understands your drive, ambition, and desire to build something big. ❤️In Experiences, you’re not just joining a program—you’re joining a powerful community of event hosts who share your goals. 🔥We’re all about raising each other up, sharing stages, collaborating, and connecting. These are people who get it, who’ll cheer you on, and who’ll support you every step of the way. 😩If there is one thing I have missed out on it’s having a support system of people who “get it”. ❌There isn’t a community anywhere specifically for us crazy people hosting events. 🙌So, I have created it, and I want you to join me and get the support you need. 👏🏻If you’re ready to stop going it alone and finally be surrounded by others who share your drive, this is the space for you. 🥂And as a thank you, you will also: 💫 Be invited to the Speakers Dinner at PeakeFest. 💫 Event Launch Bundle worth £500 If you’re working towards getting your passion project off the ground next year, then you want to be with me and this community xxx https://lnkd.in/eezkZ-9c
